Spend a few hours creating a hand-bound notebook or art journal using a childhood board game as the cover. I will show you how to recycle any cardboard board game into a one-of-a-kind art book using traditional book binding methods and materials.
Objectives:
- How to create a Japanese Stab-Bound Book, with multiple stitch variations
- Bookbinding terms, methods and tools
- How to create your own book cloth from any light to medium weight cotton fabric and interfacing for the spine
- Use game pieces and other art materials to embellish and enhance your book cover and inside pages
All supplies will be provided. There will be a variety of board games to choose from; however, if you have a favorite game, please bring it with you to ensure that is available.
Supplies to bring:
- Scissors
- Metal ruler
- Cutting board/self-healing mat
- Box cutter and/or exacto knife
- E-6000 or similar brand of fast-drying heavy duty epoxy glue
Optional supplies to bring:
- Your favorite or ënostalgic’ board game to use for the cover. Make sure it is cardboard and can be cut with a box cutter or exacto knife (i.e. NO plastic game boards).
- Ω yard of cotton fabric to match your game theme (i.e. dice, Monopoly money, etc.)
- Ribbon or string for binding
- Decorative paper for inside pages
- Lightweight scrapbook paper (12◊12 inch size is great)
