DESCRIPTION:Nina Tisara\n(Photo: Steven Halperson)\nJoin fellow Del Ray Artisans members ONLINE for the Member Meeting & Benefit Program on Thursday\, May 20 starting at 7pm. \nRegister Now \nWe’ll begin with a short meeting\, then Nina Tisara and Steven Halperson will tell us about their work creating portraits for Living Legends of Alexandria. \nNina Tisara founded Living Legends of Alexandria\, a nonprofit dedicated to honoring and chronicling individuals who have made significant contributions to the quality of life in Alexandria\, Virginia. Beginning her career as a part-time photojournalist\, Nina has photographed Alexandria people and places since 1980 and started the Living Legends program in 2006. After 30+ years as a professional photographer\, Nina Tisara’s primary artistic focus is now mosaics and\, in her not-so-spare time\, Nina writes a monthly column for the Zebra newspaper. \nSteven Halperson manages and is the primary photographer for Tisara Photography in Old Town Alexandria\, a family owned and operated business incorporated in 1985. His portraits of Alexandria’s current Living Legends are on permanent display in the Market Square Lobby of Alexandria City Hall. Steven continues to develop the creative aspects of his work and experiments with various forms of expression\, copper etching  and circuit boards\, as well as photography. \nPLUS register for the meeting before 5pm on May 18 and attend to also be entered into a drawing for some Del Ray Artisans’ swag! In this oriental art technique you will load your brush in layers of color. When you put your brush to the paper the colors come out in the reverse order on the paper. This art form is “food for the soul”—it is active meditation that teaches you to use your chi (energy) to produce a freestyle\, beautiful piece of art. \nThis 2-hour workshop (via Zoom) on oriental brush painting of Roses using Chinese watercolors is taught by international award winning artist Darlene Kaplan. A picture of the subject will be emailed to all participants to follow during the class. Burton is an artist\, art curator\, and creative life advisor\, and member of Del Ray Artisans. She is a self-taught visual artist whose preferred medium is collage and mixed media and has exhibited her art in galleries\, art venues and other settings across the country since 2007. Sharon has curated a number of art exhibitions in the Washington\, DC area since 2005 and has served as an art consultant for novice art collectors. \nSince 2007\, Sharon’s artwork has been shown in juried exhibitions\, galleries and alternative art spaces in the following cities: New York City\, Philadelphia\, Baltimore\, Columbia\, Maryland\, Silver Spring\, Maryland\, Washington\, DC\, Lorton\, Virginia and Atlanta\, Georgia. DESCRIPTION:Call for Entry ~ Open to all area artists and area high school studentsUnfinished / Finished\nExhibit Dates: April 2 – May 1\, 2021\nDigital entry deadline: Sunday\, March 14\, 2021 by midnight\n“Beauty and the Background” by Michael Green (left\, starting artist) and Eileen M. O’Brien (right\, finishing artist)\nEntry Details & Form \nAs artists\, most of us have unfinished pieces hidden in our workspaces. This exhibit challenges us to share those pieces with other artists and see how the “start” inspires a “finish” by someone else. We hope the show will provide a fun and safe way to collaborate\, given the isolation we have all experienced due to the pandemic. Artists may self-pair with someone they know -OR- sign up (by February 12) to be randomly paired. \nUnfinished/Finished is open to all area artists and area high school students. High school students are invited to participate for free (no entry fee). \nThis exhibit will have an Art-to-Go Marketplace. Join this collegial group of artists to share your goals and get feedback on artwork. Monthly meetings include discussions on exhibit opportunities\, the creative process and the local art scene.
