Learn how to hand-sew patches onto ripped or worn areas\, or to decorate clothes. \nApplique was originally used as a way to strengthen clothing and moved into artistic endeavors with quilting\, banners\, wall hangings and more! This practice transcends cultures and can be found in examples around the world throughout time. \nWe will go through the process of choosing the best fabrics for your item and hand-sew the patches on. DESCRIPTION:This workshop has been cancelled. \nInstructor: Syd Grossman\nDate/Time: Saturday\, May 2\, 6-7:30pm\nCost: $25 per DRA member/$35 per non-member\nClass size: 5-8 participants\n(Register by April 28) \nLearn the fundamentals of how to use your sewing machine\, whether you’ve just bought it or haven’t used it in 20 years. \nSewing machines open up a world of possibilities to make or mend your clothes or decor\, and create beautiful art with fabric. Starting up a sewing machine is a big\, wonderful first step that can come with a few hitches. Come learn about your sewing machine from making first stitches to troubleshooting when something goes wrong. \nWe will review: threading your machine\, winding the bobbin (if available on your machine)\, installing the bobbin\, starting your first stitches\, the differences between stitches (and which ones do you really need?)\, and troubleshooting errors. \nIf you have your manual please bring it\, otherwise please contact Syd after registration with your machine’s make and model (ex: Brother C6000i\, Kenmore 158.1595281\, Pfaff Hobby 301) or pictures of the machine if you’re not sure. \nStudents must bring their own sewing machine and manual\, or let Syd know what kind of machine they’re bringing. \nRegister Now \n\nImage credit: Syd Grossman \n\nSTEAM-tastic @ DRA – Come join us at Del Ray Artisans for interactive classes about Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Arts and Math (STEAM)\, taught by professionals from each field! DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Radical Sewing Club-ALX! \nStarted in LA by Scout Quiquivix\, the Alexandria chapter is a monthly drop-in style meeting where you can learn clothing repair\, hand and machine sewing\, or bring your own project to work on with the community. \nRadical Sewing Club is about more than sewing–it’s a space to reimagine craft outside of capitalism\, to resist exploitation and oppression\, and to stitch together a world based on care and solidarity. All who share these values are welcome. \nRegistration: Registration is not required\, but you may set a reminder in Eventbrite. \nCost: Recommended donation of $10 or pay what you can. No one turned away for lack of funds! Monetary donations will be split between Del Ray Artisans (our wonderful hosts) and Radical Sewing Club for continued materials. \nHave materials to donate?
