SUMMARY:"Artificial or Intelligence?" Art Exhibit Opening Reception
DESCRIPTION:Artificial or Intelligence? Art Exhibit\nOctober 4–26\, 2024\nOpening Reception: Friday\, October 4 from 7–9pm\nTalk about artificial intelligence\, or AI\, abounds. When humans work with AI\, is the outcome less than\, equal to\, or greater than the sum of its parts? Come see the Artificial or Intelligence? art exhibit at Del Ray Artisans gallery as we explore this and other questions. Join us for the opening reception on Friday\, October 4 between 7-9pm to meet curators Nicole Mahoney and Nancy Galib and the artists. Mark your calendar now or set a reminder through Eventbrite. \nPeople have very different perspectives on AI’s possibilities and perils. This exhibit explores what the future might look like with AI. Consider what we may gain and lose\, and how AI impacts artists’ creative practice and day-to-day lives. Participate in our conversation and decide for yourself whether machine learning feels artificial or intelligent at the present moment. All artwork is available for sale. \nAlso mark your calendar for the following special program held in conjunction with the exhibit: \nAI & Artists: A Discussion On What Artists Should Know\nSaturday\, October 19\, 6:30-8pm @ Torpedo Factory Art Center\, Grand Hall (105 N. SUMMARY:Hidden World (1/8-1/30)
DESCRIPTION:Hidden World Art Exhibit\nJanuary 8 – 30\, 2021\n“The Eye of the Abyss” by Nancy M. Galib\nView Online \nThe Hidden World art exhibit at Del Ray Artisans is a visual representation of things that are not readily visible in our ordinary lives—an exploration of microscopic organisms\, macro depictions of nature\, the metaphysical world\, emotions\, sounds\, and more. \nWe have all been affected – in one way or another – by an unseen and mysterious virus. But even these pathogens\, when revealed under a microscope\, have their own hidden\, but awful\, beauty. It challenges us to look at our world more deeply and with new eyes. \nWhether it is the mysteries of the universe\, or just something in your own backyard\, the world is rife with surprises waiting to be uncovered. The artists in this exhibit looked deeply into the world\, into their emotions\, or just into their imagination to uncover some part of the Hidden World. You are called to explore what the exhibit reveals to you. \nReserve a ticket for a half-hour viewing during the extended hours on opening day: Friday\, January 8 between 12-8pm. Opening day tickets are not required\, but ticket holders have priority entry. The gallery capacity is limited to 10 people at any one time in order to facilitate social distancing. \nOpening Day Tickets \nVisit the gallery to see the artwork in person or view the online photo album. Congratulations to the award winners: \n\nBest in Show – “Bubble Up” by Mary Elizabeth Gosselink\nCurator’s Choice – “Ebbs and Flows of Exploration” by Ada Oppengeim\nMost Inventive – “Meeting of the Minds” by Danny Robbins\nHonorable Mention – “Horizons” by Joseph Schultz\n\nRegister now for these special workshops held in conjunction with the exhibit: \nHidden World: Collage in a Box with Susan Farrer on Sunday\, January 10 from 1:30-4:30pm. Capture your ideas and images by creating a “hidden world” collage that tucks into a 7.5 x 10″ wooden box with a hinged lid. Learn about collage materials and techniques as you combine pictures of what’s important to you – whether something experienced in the natural world (people\, plants\, animals\, birds\, insects\, even microscopic organisms)\, or in your personal or inner emotional world. The finished box will be ready to hang on a wall or display on a table. No experience needed! (Register by January 5) \nHidden Layers: The Joys of Gel Printing with Eileen O’Brien on Sunday\, January 24 from 3-6pm. Gel plate printing is a fun and easy way to create beautiful one-of-a-kind prints without a press. This class introduces the basic techniques of gel printing\, and instruction on developing plates with multiple layers. Plates and all other materials provided. Participants will learn to pull prints using different paints and papers\, found objects\, stamps\, stencils and natural elements. In the three-hour workshop\, you will create multiple prints ready to mat and frame\, use in collage\, make greeting cards and so much more. (Register by January 20) \nThe Hidden World art exhibit runs January 8 – 30\, 2021 at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. The gallery is free\, open to the public\, and accessible. \nRegular gallery hours are Thursdays 12-6pm\, Fridays 12-6pm\, and Saturdays 12-4pm. Del Ray Artisans is ALX Promise certified and is committed to the health and safety of our visitors. Please wear a face mask and maintain 6′ of personal space. \nFor more information\, contact the curators: Nancy Galib (ngalib@verizon.net) and Nicole Mahoney (nicole.m.mahoney@gmail.com) or Director of Curating Kelly Postula (Curating@DelRayArtisans.org).
