SUMMARY:Block Printing 2.0 Workshop: Beyond the Basics (Register by 5/1)
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Ellen Rosenthal\, efrosevalley@gmail.com\nDate/Time: Saturday\, May 4\, 9am-noon\nCost: $20 Del Ray Artisans member / $30 Non-member; plus students must bring supplies\nClass size: 3-6 participants\n(Register by midnight on May 1) \nThis workshop is for those who have the basics of single ink block printing\, but want to do more. We’ll go beyond the basics by learning about enhancing designs with linear art techniques\, exploring ways to add additional color and interest through double-ink and simple reduction ink printing\, and using post-printing enhancement techniques\, such as collage and mixed media. \nParticipants must bring 4-8 block-prints previously created from the same edition\, plus the block used to make them\, and the supplies listed below. \nBring these Printmaking Materials: \n\n4-8 block prints from the same edition. Prints do not have to be perfect\, can be “seconds”\, and digital prints or photocopies of the print would work fine for this workshop.  Ideally\, the block prints should be smaller than 8 x 10″\nThe carved block used to make the above block prints. If you do not have the actual block\, bring a blank block that is the same size.\nCutter tools\nBench hook/printing plate\nWater-based block-printing inks (recently purchased\, not old) in 2-3 colors minimum (No oil-based printmaking inks)\nBrayer\nPrintmaking paper\, white or colored. “Fadeless Art Paper” 12 x 18″ sheets (not the rolls) from Amazon are an excellent choice\nWooden or metal spoon\nNew make-up sponges or a small kitchen sponge\n\nBring these other Art Materials: \n\nPencil: 2B and Ebony pencil (or other soft pencil 4B or 6B)\nWhite drawing paper 9 x 12″ for sketching and for making stencils\nScissors\nYour favorite dry art materials (color pencils\, markers\, crayons\, etc.)\nGlue stick\nScraps and pieces of colored or patterned paper (optional; I’ll have some to use)\nPaper towels (the gallery does not supply them)\nSmock or old shirt\n\nPlease contact instructor Ellen Rosenthal at efrosevalley@gmail.com with any questions. Looking forward to celebrating Print Day in May with you! \nRegister Now \n\nArtwork credit: Block print progression by Ellen Rosenthal \n\nView other upcoming workshops\, information about the facility\, and policies on the Upcoming Workshops page.

SUMMARY:Flag Book Workshop (Register by 1/5)
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Ellen Rosenthal\nDate/Time: Saturday\, January 6\, 10am-12pm\nCost: $18 Del Ray Artisans member / $28 Non-member; plus a $6 Supply Fee\nClass size: 3-9 participants\n(Register by noon on January 5) \nFor this workshop\, we’ll take a dive into the world of artists’ books – works of art in book form – while we create a flag book. Flag books can look complicated\, but you’ll be surprised how doable they are once you learn the steps\, and how delightful they are to look at and experience. Your completed flag book will be ready to enhance with any type of content: text or images. \nThe $6.00 supply fee covers all the paper and other supplies to make the books. In addition\, you will need to bring these supplies of your own to the workshop: \n\nRuler (12″ or longer)\nCutting board or piece of cardboard (12 x 12″ or larger)\nScissors\nPencil\nMetal spoon\nColored markers or colored pencils (optional).\n\nNote: We will be making blank flag books with 12 pages\, or “flags” (double-sided). The main goal of the workshop is to learn how to construct a basic flag book\, but we will have some time during the last part of the workshop to talk about ideas for content and strategies for embellishment. The instructor will have some basic art materials available to get you started\, but you should plan to complete your flag book’s decoration and content at home. \nRegister Now \n\nView other upcoming workshops\, information about the facility\, and policies on the Upcoming Workshops page.

During the Post-Printing Party Workshop\, we will explore ways to give new life to those extra prints: mixed media\, collage\, paper weaving\, foldables\, and more! Each participant needs to bring at least one print (preferably more)\, a pair of scissors and\, if possible\, pieces or scraps of decorative paper. \nThis will be a fun and a creative time for all of us. In addition\, an optional Print Exchange will take place: leave a print in the basket as you arrive and take a new one home at the end. \nWhere to exhibit your new creation(s)? Submit your artwork to the Prints in May @ DRA exhibit at Del Ray Artisans! The entry deadline is April 10\, and the Call for Entry will be posted at DelRayArtisans.org/cfe when available. \nFace masks are recommended inside the gallery. \nRegister Now \n\nView other upcoming workshops\, information about the facility and policies on the Upcoming Workshops page.
