If this visual calls to your inner mermaid\, we have just the creative class for you. \nPlease join us for La Siréne\, an intermediate bead embroidery class. In this class\, you will learn beaded backstitch stitch and brick stitch edging as you make your very own mermaid tail. SUMMARY:Pick-a-Daisy: Beaded Daisy Chain Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Amy Castine\nDate/Time: Monday\, March 14\, 2022 from 6-8pm\nCost: $10 DRA member and $15 Non-member; Plus bring your own supplies or purchase $10 bead kit\nClass size: 4-8 participants\n(Register by March 11) \nThis is the perfect class for budding young beaders. Kids aged 10 and up are welcome to come out and learn beginning bead weaving as they make a daisy chain bracelet or necklace. Learning the daisy chain stitch is a great way to make a fun project while developing needle handling skills and learning how to manage your thread. \nThe instructor will provide hands-on demonstrations and individual assistance\, as well as instructions with photos and text. Instructions include age and skill appropriate variations. \nNeedles and thread are available to all participants. Bead kits are available upon request (please allow 1 week’s notice to ensure materials availability) or bring your own supplies. \nPurchase a $10 bead kit or bring these supplies: \n\nAt least 2 colors of size 11/0 or size 8/0 seed beads\n\nSelect the most uniform beads you can find for a smoother result.\nSize 8/0 are larger and better for younger kids\, folks who have low vision\, and those with no needlework experience.\nSize 11/0 beads are smaller and will make a more delicate necklace or bracelet.\n\n\nBeading thread\n\nSelect a thinner thread for size 11/0 seed beads.\nIf you use larger beads\, get a thicker thread to help fill the larger hole in the beads.\nRecommend 6 or 8lb Fireline or Wildfire in a color to coordinate with the color of your beads. Fireline is available from fishing and outdoors stores. Wildfire is available from craft stores. DESCRIPTION:Workshop: ONLINE: Say Hello to My Lizard FriendDate/Time: Saturday\, June 26 from 3-5pm\nInstructor: Amy CastineCost: $15 for Del Ray Artisans members and $25 for non-members\, plus an optional $15 supply kit\nClass size: 4-6 participants \nIf you have your own supplies\, register by 1pm on Saturday 6/26 (2 hours before the workshop!).\nRegister by 7:30pm on Friday 6/25 if ordering the supply kit and pick up at Del Ray Artisans gallery (2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria VA) between 5-8pm on 6/25.\n\nWhile making a three dimensional lizard\, students will learn the basics of wire weaving. We will use a simple template and medium gauge wire to form the base of the lizard and add beads of each student’s choice woven into the frame with thin gauge wire. Everyone can personalize their creature in natural or fantastical colors. This class is a good introduction for anyone who wants to develop their skills as a wire weaver. Ages 12 and up. \nPurchase the $15 supply kit of wire and beads (students will need their own pliers) or make sure you have these supplies to make your lizard friend: \n\n10 yards 18 g wire\n30-40 yards 22 g wire\n24 grams size 8/0 seed beads\n2 fancy beads for eyes\npliers\n\nIf you purchase a supply kit\, please pick it up at the gallery on Friday\, June 25 between 5-8pm. \nThis workshop will be online through the Zoom platform.
