The bald eagle has long been our national symbol – a species common throughout North America. But I believe that Americans are a more unique breed, and our symbol should reflect that. Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina are blessed with being the global biodiversity hotspot for salamanders. Nowhere in the world has as many. In this talk, I will tell you why Americans are better represented by salamanders than by the bald eagle.
About the Presenter: Erin Anthony is currently serving as Vice President of the Virginia Herpetological Society, a volunteer run non-profit dedicated to the conservation and education of native reptiles and amphibians. She works as a sustainability coordinator and middle school science teacher at a private school on the eastern shore of Virginia.
