Applique is the process of applying material to the surface of another material for decoration (or mending!). Learn how to hand-sew patches onto ripped or worn areas, or to decorate clothes.
Applique was originally used as a way to strengthen clothing and moved into artistic endeavors with quilting, banners, wall hangings and more! This practice transcends cultures and can be found in examples around the world throughout time.
We will go through the process of choosing the best fabrics for your item and hand-sew the patches on. The applique patches will be simple, but examples will be available for how you can create art out of a variety of shapes.
Ideas for clothing or items to bring are: Shirts with logos you’d like to cover, pants with wear or rips in the knees, a jacket you’d like to personalize.
