DESCRIPTION:Del Ray Artisans invites young campers ages 8-12 years old for “Kids Just Wanna Have Fun” Summer Art Camp to spend a week creating art with professional local artist instruction. Students will have an immersive creative journey: painting\, sculpting\, journaling and other artful planned activities. During nice weather\, kids will even have outdoors time to get fresh air\, unwind\, and replenish their creative energy. All artist supplies are provided. There will be an online photo album highlighting the two weeks of art camp available later in August for parents\, friends and the community to enjoy. \nChoose Week One (July 18–22) or Week Two (July 25–29).\nCamp runs Monday through Friday from 9am-4pm.\nFor Ages: 8-12 (class size limited to 10 children per week)\nCost: $350 per child\nScholarship support is available; contact Gallery@DelRayArtisans.org for an application. \nInstructors have taken the ALX Promise pledge and follow the current pandemic policies in accordance with CDC and the State of Virginia during summer camps. A huge thank you goes to Pamela Underhill for her vision\, green thumb\, and many years of work transforming the gardens to what they look like today. To be a part of this effort\, join the committee on the third Saturday morning of every month: \n\nJuly 16\, 8-10:30am (starting at 8am!)\nAugust 20\, 8-10:30am (starting at 8am!)\nSeptember 17\, 9-11:30am\nOctober 15\, 9-11:30am\n\nBring gloves\, knee pads (if desired)\, and laughter. Even if you don’t know what a weed is\, we can teach you. Volunteer for 1 hour or the whole 2.5 hours. If you have any questions\, please email Kurt and Jenny at Gardens@DelRayArtisans.org. \nMEMBERS: This task counts towards your annual membership volunteer hours. \nNON-MEMBERS: You are welcome to come help and learn too. \nThank you for your volunteer time! \nNOTE: All plantings and transplantings must be approved by the Garden Committee. The Garden Committee approval is important to make sure the plants that get chosen are great for nature\, located properly for the right amount of sun or shade\, don’t conflict with other plants or facility needs\, and fit into the overall garden plan with maintenance in mind.

DESCRIPTION:This 2-day workshop has been canceled. Consider taking the 2-hour Quilt Patch Mosaic Workshop (no glass cutting) on Tuesday\, August 16\, 2022 from 6:30–8:30pm for a taste of this artform.  \nInstructor: Shona D’Cruz (pronounced “shawna”)\nDates: Friday\, July 1 from 10am–5pm AND Saturday\, July 2 from 10am–12:30pm\nClass size: 6-10 participants\n(Register by midnight on June 24 – one week in advance) \nCreate an 8″ x 8″ mosaic art work for indoor display\, using a variety of materials such as stained glass\, vitreous tiles and other beautiful glass. Have fun while you learn to cut glass and build your piece\, tessera by tessera. We will touch upon design\, adhesives\, appropriate substrates for indoor use\, etc. Learn how to grout and finish your piece. \nStudents are encouraged to create their own simple design\, but some basic design options will be provided by the instructor. Completed pieces are grouted on the final day. \nThis is a 2-day workshop on Friday\, July 1 from 10am–5pm AND Saturday\, July 2 from 10am–12:30pm. Skill level: Beginner to intermediate. Minimum age 16. \nPlease note the following: \n\nPlease wear closed-toed shoes.\nBring an apron if desired.\nThere is a $65 supply fee for this workshop separate from the instruction cost. The supply fee includes all glass\, backerboard\, grout\, and the use of tools during class. To be a part of this effort\, join the committee on the third Saturday morning of every month: \n\nMay 21\, 9-11:30am\nJune 18\, 8-10:30am (starting at 8am!)\nJuly 16\, 8-10:30am (starting at 8am!)\nAugust 20\, 8-10:30am (starting at 8am!)\nSeptember 17\, 9-11:30am\nOctober 15\, 9-11:30am\n\nBring gloves\, knee pads (if desired)\, and laughter. Even if you don’t know what a weed is\, we can teach you. Volunteer for 1 hour or the whole 2.5 hours. DESCRIPTION:Drop-in and practice life drawing on Tuesday\, June 14 from 7-10pm. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint our nude model. Traditional drawing media (such as pencils\, pens\, and charcoal) are welcome; and pastels\, watercolor and ink are permissible. Please do not bring acrylics or oil paints. We don’t supply easels – only plenty of chairs – but you are welcome to bring your own easel if you want to use one. All skill levels are welcome. \nThe first two hours of this session will be focused on gesture poses (dynamic 1-5 minute poses) to loosen up and participate in a fun\, fast-paced drawing experience. There’s lots of creative time during this 3-hour workshop… No need to rush\, which is one of the first lessons in using resin! \nThis workshop does not get into using dyes with resin or building big molds to create one-of-a-kind resined tables (as seen on YouTube)\, but this workshop will provide you with a good understanding of how resin works so you can be bold enough to take the next steps in your creative interests. \nAlthough the class is listed for 3 hours\, you can leave once you have finished your creations. Some students finish very quickly while others take the whole 3 hours to create – there is plenty of time for each person to enjoy the creative process while not feeling rushed. You’ll leave your finished masterpiece(s) to set at the gallery at the end of the workshop\, and pick them up during gallery hours later in the week. \nThe workshop is designed for adults. Children ages 16-17 may participate with parental permission. SUMMARY:Mini Mosaic Pendant Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Shona D’Cruz (pronounced “shawna”)Dates: Saturday\, June 11 from 6:30–8:30pmCost: $65 for Del Ray Artisans members and $80 for non-members\, plus a $20 supply feeClass size: 6-14 (16 years minimum age)(Register ASAP) \nCreate a one-of-a-kind mini mosaic pendant out of beautiful millefiori\, tiny ceramic tiles\, glass tiles\, natural stones and other fun materials. During this 2-hour class\, the instructor will walk you through the steps of creating a design\, along with considerations for color and placement of your chosen tesserae. If you wish\, you may bring small pieces of broken jewelry to add to your piece. Please note the following: \n\nPlease do not bring any glass or ceramic cutting tools to this workshop.\nPlease wear closed-toed shoes.\nThis is not messy work (no glass cutting)\, but the adhesive does not come off clothing. Please dress accordingly and bring an apron if you wish.\nWe will be working with various sizes of tesserae\, so please make sure you have your readers / magnifiers\, and a clip on lamp if you feel you need extra lighting. With 16 years of experience\, your instructor (self-taught wire jewelry designer and business owner) reviews the components and skills for assembling basic wire jewelry pieces. You will learn all ‘cold’ techniques\, which refers to manipulation of materials with NO HEAT added (no soldering\, melting\, etc). Whether you have zero experience or have dabbled\, we will be starting from the very beginning! You will: \n\nLearn the basic concepts of ‘cold’ wire jewelry\nPractice coordination skills for wire-jewelry-making\nLearn about the basic components used to assemble your class projects (a pendant necklace & a pair earrings)\n\nWHAT YOU MAKE\nYou will receive the materials to create 2 projects (a delicate pendant necklace and 1 pair of earrings) from start to finish PLUS have the opportunity (and materials) to repair some of your own items during the class time. Tools are provided for class use only\, but if you’d like to continue your jewelry-making adventure\, pliers sets can be purchased during the class for $15 (cash preferred). \nWHAT TO BRING\nBring nimble hands\, a snack and/or bev\, and more importantly… B.Y.O.P.
