SUMMARY:Life Drawing - Short/Long Poses
DESCRIPTION:Looking for a chance to hone your figure drawing skills? Del Ray Artisans offers a range of open life drawing sessions for just this purpose. Both nude and clothed models are featured. (Models will be nude unless otherwise noted.) These sessions operate on a drop-in basis so there is no need to register in advance. Bring your supplies and join us at the gallery to draw or paint from our live models. We don’t supply easels but you are welcome to bring your own if you want to use one. Please no acrylics or oils; pastels\, watercolor and ink are permissible. All skill levels are welcome. \nThe fee for each three-hour session is $10 for DRA members and $12 for non-members. Two-hour sessions are $8 for members and $10 for non-members. \nShort/Long Pose Sessions\nThe three-hour short/long pose sessions start with some short 1 to 5-minute warm-up poses and progressively move into longer poses lasting 10 to 45 minutes. DESCRIPTION:This workshop has been rescheduled to September 5th. This workshop is free\, but please register in advance to help the instructors plan. \nInstructors: Dixie Pond and Niranjan Dinesh\nDate: Thursday\, August 15 from 7-8:30pm\nClass size: 4-12 participants \nBrazilian zouk is a partner dance from Brazil characterized by flowy\, circular movements. The beginner classes will cover the foundations of the dance\, including basic steps\, timing\, and connection. Brazilian zouk derived from Brazilian lambada. Following the lambada craze\, people began dancing lambada steps to slower paced music from the French Caribbean called zouk. Thus\, Brazilian zouk was born! The dance continues to evolve today and can be danced to a variety of music.  \nStudents can expect to learn the basic steps of Brazilian zouk as well as timing. Class can be a standalone\, or a series of beginner classes if there is interest in a 4-week series. \nComfortable clothing and comfortable shoes (i.e.\, able to pivot in them!) recommended for attendees. \n. \n\nThis workshop is a part of Del Ray Artisans’ Creative Summer Programs. SUMMARY:Workshop: Acrylics\, Mixing Color for Realism
DESCRIPTION:Old Trap Floats by Jeff Lodge\nInstructor: Jeff Lodge\nDate: Saturday\, August 10 from 11am-2pm\nClass size: 5-12 participants\n(Register by August 7) \nMixing the right color can be challenging. In this workshop\, Jeff will show how to reproduce the colors in a scene using tints\, tones\, shades\, and hues. Common problems and mistakes will be covered\, and students will learn how to get the correct overall tonal balance in a painting\, recreate atmospheric effects\, and use glazing to reduce contrast and blend color areas. \nAlthough acrylics will be used in the workshop\, the theories taught are applicable to all opaque paint mediums (such as acrylic\, oil\, and gouache). Students will create a small painting during the class. The exhibit highlights new faces and techniques—showcasing artwork by Del Ray Artisans’ newest member artists. Come to the opening reception on Friday\, August 2 from 7-9pm to meet the curators and artists. \nMembers who joined between January 2018 through May 2019 were invited to enter work in the exhibit; and\, as a part of a membership drive\, members who recruited new member artists were also invited to enter. From the submissions curators Brittany Gabel and Kurt Peterson selected quality artwork in a variety of styles and mediums to formulate the Fresh Meat exhibit and introduce the new members’ work to the community. The exhibit runs August 2 through September 1\, 2019. \nJoin us for a special workshop taught by an award winning Del Ray Artisans and The Art League member\, Jeff Lodge: Acrylics\, Mixing Color for Realism on Saturday\, August 10 from 11am-2pm. Learn the basic principles for working with acrylic paints\, including paint and tool selection\, surface preparation\, mixing\, mediums\, and more. This workshop is for all skill levels. The exhibit highlights new faces and techniques—showcasing artwork by Del Ray Artisans’ newest member artists. Get a sneak peek of the exhibit on First Thursday\, August 1 from 6-9pm; and come to the opening reception on Friday\, August 2 from 7-9pm to meet the curators and artists. \nMembers who joined between January 2018 through May 2019 were invited to enter work in the exhibit; and\, as a part of a membership drive\, members who recruited new member artists were also invited to enter. From the submissions curators Brittany Gabel and Kurt Peterson selected quality artwork in a variety of styles and mediums to formulate the Fresh Meat exhibit and introduce the new members’ work to the community. The exhibit runs August 2 through September 1\, 2019. \nJoin us for a special workshop taught by an award winning Del Ray Artisans and The Art League member\, Jeff Lodge: Acrylics\, Mixing Color for Realism on Saturday\, August 10 from 11am-2pm. DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Joan BickelhauptSessions: June 30\, July 28\, and August 25\nClass size: 3-15 participants\nRegister in advance. Registration ends at 6pm the Friday before each session. Participants may bring their own supplies\, or purchase supplies from the instructor during their session. \nImprove your skills in visual storytelling by creating images from direct observation that convey a sense of space and a moment in time. \nSign up for one\, two\, or three “on the go” sessions to practice quick interior or exterior drawings done in one sitting. The facilitator will suggest different compositional approaches to sketching in ink\, pencil\, or watercolor. Participants will then spend their time putting those suggestions into practice by making casual figure\, portrait\, cafe\, or street drawings.
