DESCRIPTION:NOTE: Del Ray Artisans’ gallery is closed on Thanksgiving Day\, but open the remainder of the weekend. Check out the current exhibit from Friday-Sunday during gallery hours! \nThe Alexandria Turkey Trot is a 5-mile run/walk on Thanksgiving Day. This year the 45th annual Alexandria Turkey Trot is moving to a virtual format due to COVID-19. Participants can complete a five-mile run or walk\, at the place of their choice\, any time between November 21 and 29 and log their race times online. Registration is open at alexandriaturkeytrot.com; while participants can register at any time until November 28\, the deadline to order a commemorative t-shirt is November 13. \nIn the spirit of the holiday\, runners are encouraged to donate nonperishable food items for ALIVE\, a nonprofit organization that serves those most in need in the City of Alexandria. Needed items include one-pound bags of rice; one-pound bags of dried beans; macaroni and cheese boxes; canned vegetable\, soup and fruit (14-15 oz.); canned tuna; canned chicken; and baking mixes (such as Bisquick\, 5-7 oz.). \nIn 2019\, the event raised over $6\,000 for ALIVE!\, with runners donating over 2\,000 pounds of food. The Alexandria Turkey Trot is also the primary fundraiser for the Del Ray Business Association\, which hosts a wide range of community events year-round and represents the independently-owned restaurants\, retailers\, and businesses in the Del Ray neighborhood of Alexandria.

During this event\, you’ll paint your own panel for the COVID-19 U.S. Honor Quilt! DESCRIPTION:Del Ray’s signature arts festival\, Art on the Avenue\, will be virtual this year due to the pandemic. The event will feature over 150 artists\, virtual experiences\, and a wide range of opportunities to support local artists and connect as a creative community while social distancing. Art on the Avenue will launch on Saturday\, October 3 and run through the holidays. DESCRIPTION:Living in a Mini World Art Exhibit\nOctober 2-31\, 2020\n“The Bouquet Toss” by Betsy Jones\nThe Living in a Mini World art exhibit features small (and smaller) artworks by Del Ray Artisans members. Embrace the tiny! Imagine you have drunk Alice in Wonderland‘s magic (BIG) potion\, or are in The Borrowers\, Stewart Little\, or Gulliver’s Travels. \nReserve a ticket now for a half-hour viewing on opening day: Friday\, October 2\, 2020 between 12-8pm. Gallery capacity is limited to 10 people at any one time in order to facilitate social distancing. Please wear a face mask and maintain 6? of personal space. \nOpening Day Tickets \n\nThis exhibit is a collection of art smaller than a magazine. It has pushed some artists who are large scale painters or textile artists to think small. There are paintings perfect to fit in your tiniest spot\, 3D works for the corner of your coffee table and lots of different types of jewelry. All the art is a perfect gift for you or early holiday shopping for others. \n\n“English Tea Time” by Howard Hay\nCome see the artwork awarded: Best in Show\, Tiniest Piece\, Monet Award\, Best Use of Color\, Palette Award for Painting\, Da Vinci Award for most inventive\, and Jackson Pollock Award for messiest use of materials. SUMMARY:Workshop: Coaster Creations with Gel Prints
DESCRIPTION:Registration is now closed. \nInstructors: Eileen O’Brien and Linda Mierke\nDate: Sunday\, September 20 from 4-7pm\nClass size: 4-6 participants\n(Register by September 16)\n \nThis is a fun and easy way to design and create beautiful and functional art to keep or give as gifts—no experience necessary! Participants will learn the basics of print-making with gel plates through the manipulation of paints and mark-makers. These prints will then be decoupaged onto coaster tiles and sealed with an odorless varnish. Participants will create four coasters\, along with other prints that can be framed as artwork or used as collage papers. \nAll supplies are included in the supplies fee\, though participants may bring their own to personalize their coasters. \nPlease wear a face mask and maintain 6′ of personal space. \n.\n\nView other upcoming workshops\, information about the facility\, and policies on the Upcoming Workshops page.
