SUMMARY:Second Time Around at Del Ray Artisans Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Second Time Around Art Exhibit\nSeptember 5–27\, 2025\nOpening Reception: Friday\, September 5 from 7–9pm\n“Amoeba Series: Party!” by Tracy Wilkerson\nMany physical items we choose to remove from our lives can be sold/given/donated to others rather than going into our world’s overburdened landfills. It takes a conscious choice to acquire items from others rather than purchasing new items at a retail store. It also takes a little effort to offer something no longer needed to others rather than just tossing it in the trash or recycle bin. The Second Time Around art exhibit at Del Ray Artisans gallery focuses on this thought-change concept of sustainable creativity and enhancing the artistic environmental ethos\, from the featured artwork utilizing recycled materials to the special workshops and events held during the exhibit. \nJoin us for the opening reception on Friday\, September 5 between 7-9pm to meet curator Tracy Wilkerson and the artists. Mark your calendar now or set a reminder through Eventbrite. \nSave the dates for these creative events: \n\nCardboard Creatures workshop – September 6\, 10am-noon\nAcrylic Paint Pour workshop – September 8\, 6:30-8:30pm\nEco-Chic Jewelry workshop – September 10\, 6:30-8pm\nDime Store Alchemy workshop\, September 13\, 6-8:30pm\nJewelry Fix-It Nite – September 18\, 6:30-8:30pm\nPlaying with Resin workshop – September 22\, 6-9pm\n80s Sing-Along & Dance Party – September 26\, 8-11pm\nMovie Nite – September 27\, starting at 7:30pm\n\nRegister in advance for workshops at delrayartisans.org/workshops. Also\, join us for our outdoor HalloWEIRD Art Market on Saturday\, September 20\, 10am-4pm. \nThe Second Time Around art exhibit runs from September 5–27\, 2025 at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are Thursday 12-6pm\, Friday 12-9pm\, Saturday 12-6pm\, and Sunday 12-6pm (closed September 28). \nThe gallery is free\, open to the public\, and accessible. SUMMARY:CANCELED: Nature Journaling Club on 9/27 due to the weather
DESCRIPTION:Practiced by artists and naturalists alike\, nature journaling is a centuries-old exercise in refining our powers of observation\, appreciation for nature\, drawing skills\, and mindful presence. This group is open to all experience levels as we meet to sketch\, connect\, and learn together! \nDel Ray Artisans’ Nature Journaling Club meets at 10am in front of Del Ray Artisans on the final Saturday morning of the month (except not in July\, November\, and December). \nParticipants will need to bring their own sketchbooks and supplies. We will have plenty of time for sketching in nature before gathering again at 11:30am to share our sketches and observations and discuss tips and tools for nature journaling in the wild. We hope you will join us as we strengthen our art and inquiry practice together! \nSuggested supplies: sketchbook\, pens\, pencils\, colored pencils\, watercolor pencils\, or other portable media\, and a water bottle since we will be outdoors. You may also want to bring something to sit on (folding chair or blanket). \nNOTE: This program is held outdoors and will be canceled if raining. \nThis program is FREE! Donations appreciated. SUMMARY:Full Hunter's Moon Sound Bath & Meditation (Register ASAP)
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Ditas Katague\nDate/Time: Sunday\, October 5\, 6:30-8pm\nCost: $45 Del Ray Artisans member / $55 Non-member\nClass size: 6-25 participants\n(Register  in advance to save your space) \nJoin Ditas for an enchanting Full Moon Sound Bath. This special evening offers the perfect opportunity to release accumulated stress and reconnect with your inner wisdom. \nExperience profound healing vibrations of crystal and Tibetan bowls and gong\, while bathing in the powerful energy of the full moon. Beginning with gentle movement\, then guided meditation\, and culminating with a soundbath where harmonic frequencies help clear energy blockages and induce relaxation. \nThe October Full Moon\, traditionally known as the Hunter’s Moon\, rises as the leaves turn golden and the harvest season reaches its peak. Named for the time when hunters would track game by moonlight to prepare for winter\, this moon symbolizes preparation\, gathering resources\, and honoring the abundance we’ve cultivated. It encourages us to harvest not only the fruits of our labor but also the wisdom we’ve gained throughout the year. \nThis moon phase encourages us to ask: What am I ready to release? What new energies am I ready to welcome? The vibrations of the soundbath will support this powerful intention-setting and letting go process. \nThere will be gentle movement and some light breathwork\, a guided meditation and then the beautiful sound bath will fill the gallery with vibration and sound to help participants relax and release. \nParticipants should bring a yoga/exercise mat or thick blanket\, pillow and water bottle for maximum comfort. Eye mask is optional. \nRegister Now \n\nView other upcoming workshops\, information about the facility\, and policies on the Upcoming Workshops page.

SUMMARY:Creative Book Club: "Ways of Seeing" by John Berger
DESCRIPTION:Book: “Ways of Seeing” by John Berger\nFacilitator: Marshall Carolus\nMeeting Date: Saturday\, October 11\, 10am-12pm\n(Drop-in\, set a reminder in Eventbrite) \nJoin us on October 11 at 10am to discuss John Berger’s “Ways of Seeing”. It’s an adaptation of a 4-part series he did for the BBC. As described by Michael Messmer\, “Berger challenges the notion that Western art is solely the product of individual geniuses by exploring the social and economic contexts in which art is produced and consumed. The book comprises seven essays\, some of which combine text and images\, presenting a non-linear format that invites readers to engage critically with visual culture.” \nThe Creative Book Club meets on select Saturday mornings at Del Ray Artisans gallery to discuss readings by a variety of authors. The club is open to all who are interested in keeping their creative muse flowing and connecting with other creative people. This is a free event; donations are appreciated. Del Ray Artisans is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit arts organization. Future book selections will be announced on this website and in the Weekly eNews email in advance. \nIf you have questions\, please contact Marshall Carolus at marshallcarolus@aol.com. \n.

SUMMARY:Volunteer in the Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Give some TLC to Del Ray Artisans’ gardens! Join the Gardens Committee to spruce up the landscaping around the gallery. \nBring gloves\, knee pads (if desired)\, and laughter. Even if you don’t know what a weed is\, we can teach you. Volunteer for 1 hour or the whole 2.5 hours. If you have any questions\, please email Kurt at Gardens@DelRayArtisans.org. \nMEMBERS: This task counts towards your annual membership volunteer hours (record your hours). \nNON-MEMBERS: You are welcome to come help and learn too. \nSave the Dates: During the season (March-October)\, the committee typically meets the third Saturday of the month from 9am-11am. In June\, July\, and August\, we’ll meet an hour earlier (8am-10am) to avoid the heat. The June session will be a week earlier on Saturday\, June 14th; and the September session has been rescheduled to Sunday\, September 21st to avoid conflict with the HalloWEIRD art market. Thank you for your volunteer time! \n\nNOTE: All plantings and transplantings must be approved by the Garden Committee. The Garden Committee approval is important to make sure the plants that get chosen are great for nature\, located properly for the right amount of sun or shade\, don’t conflict with other plants or facility needs\, and fit into the overall garden plan with maintenance in mind.
