DESCRIPTION:Register Now \nDel Ray Artisans invites young campers ages 8-12 years old for “Brushes & Beyond” Summer Art Camp to spend a week creating art with professional local artist instruction. Students will have an immersive creative journey\, including painting\, sculpting\, journaling\, and STEAM-tastic activities that celebrate science and art. During nice weather\, kids will even have outdoors time to get fresh air\, unwind\, and replenish their creative energy. All artist supplies are provided. Students must bring their own lunches. \nChoose Week One (July 14–18) or Week Two (July 21–25).\nCamp runs Monday through Friday from 9am-4pm.\nFor Ages: 8-12 (class size limited to 15 children per week)\nCost: $350 per child\nScholarship support is available; contact Gallery@DelRayArtisans.org for an application. \nThere will also be a special\, one-day only\, gallery show on the Saturday following camp (July 19 for week one campers and July 26 for week two campers) to show off students’ work. To honor the earth\, create a poster emphasizing an environmental problem and/or solution. These may be from personal experience or from any background knowledge you may have. Also the instructor will share some of the leading environmental issues today to help with ideas. Before this workshop\, you can research topics or imagery (on a non-copyrighted site such as Unsplash). \nLet’s hear your voice – create a poster with a positive solution to an environmental issue of today! Create your own fairy-tale inspired character to hang up in your room. Let your imagination run wild\, from heroes who are scared\, to damsels who don’t care\, villains who love jelly beans\, monsters who want to help and everything in between! \nBring your favorite fairy tale character ideas to get started right away. We use cardboard\, paper mache and paint\, so come prepared to get messy. \nOn day 1\, you will design your fairy tale character and create your design into a paper mache wall piece. Paper mache takes a few days to dry so you will come back on the 2nd date to paint and finalize your wall piece. The sessions are three hours each\, but some students might finish early. Students must be accompanied by an adult who can assist with cutting cardboard. In fact\, he owned 25 cats and all but one called Sam! He believed that art is everywhere and that even the things we see everyday make a perfect subject to add to a painting\, like cats. You will learn color theory while making a series of cats on a colorful painted background. This fun technique allows you to keep creating as many cats as you’d like\, each with their own personality to create a work of art inspired by Andy Warhol. Geared toward kids and teens\, each lesson has a short talk or demonstration and a hands-on craft project. Del Ray Artisans’ STEAM-tastic workshops are made possible with support from the City of Alexandria through the FY2025 Annual Arts Program Grant.
