DESCRIPTION:This workshop has been rescheduled to Wednesdays\, November 8 & 15 from 6-9pm. \nInstructor: Amy Castine\, amy.castine@aim.com\nDate/Time: Saturdays\, October 21 and 28 from 9am-12pm\nCost: $120 Del Ray Artisans member / $150 Non-member; plus a $30 Supply Fee\nClass size: 4-10 participants\n(Register by midnight on October 15) \nIn this 2-day intermediate level beadwork workshop\, you will create your own dragon’s eye pendant or brooch by combining bead embroidery and peyote stitch bead weaving. Sign up early\, and the instructor will personalize the supply kit with your favorite colors—allowing you to make the perfect dragon! \nThe supply fee includes all the materials to make a similar piece—but not identical—to the photo. Each piece will be one-of-a-kind. Sign up today as space is limited. \nThis 2-day workshop (on Saturdays\, October 21 and October 28 from 9am-noon) is being held in conjunction with the Curses! SUMMARY:“Little Pine’s Halloween” Reading and Meet the Author: Nina Tisara
DESCRIPTION:Come hear the author herself! Meet mosaic artist/photographer and Alexandria legend Nina Tisara on Saturday\, October 21 from 5 to 7:30pm at Del Ray Artisans gallery. She will give a special reading of her story\, Little Pine’s Halloween\, at 6pm. \nTisara wrote the story for her children when they were young. It tells of a young pine tree who plans a Halloween party for his neighbor trees\, but worries that his pine needles won’t turn pretty colors like theirs. \nTisara recently unearthed a typed version of the story and shared it with her children. Her youngest\, Lynn\, suggested she turn it into a book. And she did! \nThe front and back covers\, designed by Sharmila Karamchandani and Steven Halperson\, show mosaics Tisara recently made to illustrate the story. The mosaics\, which show Little Pine and Mother Pine surrounded by colorful trees\, both received Honorable Mention recognition in Art League exhibitions. \nChildren (and adults) are encouraged to wear costumes. Del Ray Artisans gallery is at 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue in Alexandria. Meet the author 5-7:30pm\, reading at 6pm. \nFace masks are recommended inside the gallery.
