SUMMARY:CANCELED: Making Mosaic Art Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This 2-day workshop has been canceled. Consider taking the 2-hour Quilt Patch Mosaic Workshop (no glass cutting) on Tuesday\, August 16\, 2022 from 6:30–8:30pm for a taste of this artform.  \nInstructor: Shona D’Cruz (pronounced “shawna”)\nDates: Friday\, July 1 from 10am–5pm AND Saturday\, July 2 from 10am–12:30pm\nClass size: 6-10 participants\n(Register by midnight on June 24 – one week in advance) \nCreate an 8″ x 8″ mosaic art work for indoor display\, using a variety of materials such as stained glass\, vitreous tiles and other beautiful glass. Have fun while you learn to cut glass and build your piece\, tessera by tessera. We will touch upon design\, adhesives\, appropriate substrates for indoor use\, etc. Learn how to grout and finish your piece. \nStudents are encouraged to create their own simple design\, but some basic design options will be provided by the instructor. Completed pieces are grouted on the final day. \nThis is a 2-day workshop on Friday\, July 1 from 10am–5pm AND Saturday\, July 2 from 10am–12:30pm. Skill level: Beginner to intermediate. Minimum age 16. \nPlease note the following: \n\nPlease wear closed-toed shoes.\nBring an apron if desired.\nThere is a $65 supply fee for this workshop separate from the instruction cost. The supply fee includes all glass\, backerboard\, grout\, and the use of tools during class. DESCRIPTION:From 4-7pm\, drop-in to help touch up the gallery cubes and walls to prepare for the next exhibits. \nFrom 6-9pm\, visit the “Red\, White\, and Blue” neighborhood First Thursday event at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square at the corner of Oxford and Mount Vernon Avenues to take a photo with Liberty\, the Art Town Crier (aka Del Ray Artisans member Erica Hughes). \nThe gallery is closed to the public on Thursday\, July 7 and Friday\, July 8 as it is being prepared for the Summer Art Market on Saturday & Sunday (July 9-10). \n  \n\nDel Ray celebrates  First Thursday\, a Del Ray community event along Mount Vernon Avenue from 6pm until dusk on the first Thursday of the month (April through September). \nVisit Del Ray Artisans gallery (open 12-9pm on First Thursdays) for a peek at the art exhibit. Come to our outdoor activity starting at 6pm each First Thursday: \n\nThe neighborhood theme on April 21\, 2022 (postponed from April 7 due to the weather) is Books on Parade! Del Ray Artisans along with Upcycle invite you to join us for First Thursday for this fun upcycled paper project. Choose to make a feather or flower from craft paper\, book pages or old comic books. Plus see the Second Life art exhibit featuring art made with at least 50% recycled materials!\n\nThe neighborhood theme on May 5\, 2022 is Dog Days in Del Ray. We’ll be “Making Art Splash!” Come create a “Washington Color Rule-the-School” canvas in Colasanto Park outside the gallery and recreate a Gene Davis Stripe Sidewalk Painting in conjunction with the upcoming art exhibit: Drips\, Lines\, Splatters\, and Splash: A Celebration of the Washington Color School\n\nThe neighborhood theme on June 2\, 2022 is Unmask Your Superhero. The outdoor activity has been canceled due to the weather. Inside the gallery get a sneak peek of the upcoming Afros and Abstract art exhibit.\n\nThe neighborhood theme on July 7\, 2022 is Red\, White\, and Blue. SUMMARY:Art Camp 2022 (Choose July 18–22 or July 25–29)
DESCRIPTION:Del Ray Artisans invites young campers ages 8-12 years old for “Kids Just Wanna Have Fun” Summer Art Camp to spend a week creating art with professional local artist instruction. Students will have an immersive creative journey: painting\, sculpting\, journaling and other artful planned activities. During nice weather\, kids will even have outdoors time to get fresh air\, unwind\, and replenish their creative energy. All artist supplies are provided. There will be an online photo album highlighting the two weeks of art camp available later in August for parents\, friends and the community to enjoy. \nChoose Week One (July 18–22) or Week Two (July 25–29).\nCamp runs Monday through Friday from 9am-4pm.\nFor Ages: 8-12 (class size limited to 10 children per week)\nCost: $350 per child\nScholarship support is available; contact Gallery@DelRayArtisans.org for an application. \nInstructors have taken the ALX Promise pledge and follow the current pandemic policies in accordance with CDC and the State of Virginia during summer camps. Face masks are recommended inside the gallery. Students must bring their own lunches. \nArt Camp will be at the Del Ray Artisans gallery at the Nicholas A.
