SUMMARY:New Beginnings (2/1-2/24)
DESCRIPTION:New Beginnings Art Exhibit\nFebruary 1-24\, 2019\nOpening Reception: Friday\, February 1 from 7-9pm\n“Flower Gears” by Tracy Wilkerson\nThe EPA estimates that 75% of the American waste stream is recyclable\, but we only recycle about 30% of it. People have taken to eBay and CraigsList for years to rehome their used goods in exchange for cash\, and now many are utilizing give-away sites like Freecycle.org and BuyNothing too. Artists are often among the most conscientious recyclers\, by reusing others’ discards to create unique art. \nJoin us at Del Ray Artisans from February 1-24\, 2019 for New Beginnings art exhibit featuring beautiful artwork created by reuse. These creations incorporate at least half of their materials from either found objects\, recycled materials or older works of art. Meet the curator and some of the artists at the opening reception on Friday\, February 1 from 7-9pm. \nFour workshops are scheduled during this show – register before they fill up! \n\nWire-Wrapped Gemstone and Crystal Rings Workshop on February 7\, 6-8pm\nMaking Cards Workshop on February 10\, 6-8pm\nFound It – Make It – Wear It (Jewelry) Workshop on February 12\, 7-9pm\nPlaying with Resin Workshop on February 19\, 6-9pm\n\nThe art exhibit\, opening reception\, and workshops are at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: Thursdays 12-6pm\, Fridays 12-9pm\, Saturdays 12-9pm\, and Sundays 12-6pm. The gallery is free\, open to the public\, and accessible. \nFor more information\, please contact the curator Tracy Wilkerson (recycledworks@yahoo.com) or Director of Curating Brittany Gabel (Curating@DelRayArtisans.org).

SUMMARY:Bringing Words to Life (9/30-1/27)
DESCRIPTION:Bringing Words to Life Art Exhibit at VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital\nSeptember 30\, 2018 – January 27\, 2019\n“I Hope You Dance” by Monica Hokeilen\nThe Bringing Words to Life art exhibit at the Veterinary Clinics of America Alexandria Animal Hospital (VCA Alexandria) features Del Ray Artisans members’ artwork. The exhibit is a part of Del Ray Artisans’ Gallery Without Walls (GWW) program in partnership with VCA Alexandria and features paintings\, photography\, and mixed media works of art. \nWords can be powerful forms of art. Whether written\, spoken\, or sung\, words often evoke emotion and meaning that stay with us long after they are finished. Bringing Words to Life pairs a line from an artist’s favorite song\, poem\, book\, or speech with the artist’s visual interpretation of that quote. This exhibit will display the artwork and quoted lines together at VCA Alexandria from September 30\, 2018 through January 27\, 2019. Patrons may view the artwork at VCA Alexandria during regular business hours and at the discretion of hospital staff. \nAll artwork is available for purchase through Del Ray Artisans. Artists are donating 20% of the purchase price of sold pieces in an equal split between Del Ray Artisans and the VCA Alexandria’s charity of choice\, Veterans Moving Forward. Veterans Moving Forward helps veterans lead more productive lives through partnerships with trained assistance animals. Del Ray Artisans and Veterans Moving Forward are 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations. \nVCA Alexandria Animal Hospital is located at 2660 Duke Street\, Alexandria\, VA 22314. VCA Alexandria staff can be reached by phone at 703-751-2022 or 703-823-3601. Del Ray Artisans’ volunteer GWW curator\, Monica Hokeilen\, may be reached at GWW@DelRayArtisans.org.
