SUMMARY:Second Time Around at Del Ray Artisans Gallery
DESCRIPTION:Second Time Around Art Exhibit\nSeptember 5–27\, 2025\nOpening Reception: Friday\, September 5 from 7–9pm\n“Amoeba Series: Party!” by Tracy Wilkerson\nMany physical items we choose to remove from our lives can be sold/given/donated to others rather than going into our world’s overburdened landfills. It takes a conscious choice to acquire items from others rather than purchasing new items at a retail store. It also takes a little effort to offer something no longer needed to others rather than just tossing it in the trash or recycle bin. The Second Time Around art exhibit at Del Ray Artisans gallery focuses on this thought-change concept of sustainable creativity and enhancing the artistic environmental ethos\, from the featured artwork utilizing recycled materials to the special workshops and events held during the exhibit. \nJoin us for the opening reception on Friday\, September 5 between 7-9pm to meet curator Tracy Wilkerson and the artists. Mark your calendar now or set a reminder through Eventbrite. \nSave the dates for these creative events: \n\nCardboard Creatures workshop – September 6\, 10am-noon\nAcrylic Paint Pour workshop – September 8\, 6:30-8:30pm\nEco-Chic Jewelry workshop – September 10\, 6:30-8pm\nDime Store Alchemy workshop\, September 13\, 6-8:30pm\nJewelry Fix-It Nite – September 18\, 6:30-8:30pm\nPlaying with Resin workshop – September 22\, 6-9pm\n80s Sing-Along & Dance Party – September 26\, 8-11pm\nMovie Nite – September 27\, starting at 7:30pm\n\nRegister in advance for workshops at delrayartisans.org/workshops. Also\, join us for our outdoor HalloWEIRD Art Market on Saturday\, September 20\, 10am-4pm. \nThe Second Time Around art exhibit runs from September 5–27\, 2025 at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. SUMMARY:Happy 275th Anniversary to the City of Alexandria #ALX275 installation (6/7/2024 – 10/28/2024)
DESCRIPTION:The “Happy 275th Anniversary to the City of Alexandria #ALX275” installation is courtesy of Del Ray Artisans nonprofit. Take a photo with the installation\, share on social media and tag:\n#ALX275 #CityPride #DelRayArtisans \nThe installation is approximately 40 feet wide by 7 feet tall and was created using natural and synthetic yarn\, fabric trim\, mylar\, plastic\, and vinyl. The installation is on display outside Del Ray Artisans gallery from June 7 through October 28\, 2024. The original end date was September 1\, but it was extended due to positive community feedback and a material connection to the Fascinating Fiber\, Alluring Fabric art exhibit inside Del Ray Artisans gallery from September 6–28\, 2024. \nRiver Towers Condominium Association donated knitted and crocheted pieces from a yarn bomb installation at the condominium complex (March-April 2024) to Del Ray Artisans. The individual pieces were created by Iva Beatty\, Melinda Croft\, Nancy Mendez\, Anne St. Jacques\, and Leah Sturgis. Most of the yarn came from UpCycle Creative Reuse Center. \nThe pieces were reformed into “candles” and installed outside Del Ray Artisans gallery by Dawn Wyse Hurto\, Sophia Jones\, Adelyn Doyle\, and Kurt Peterson. The new concept was completed with the addition of a banner wishing a happy 275th anniversary to the City of Alexandria. The source materials for the banner include a photograph by Engin Akyurt (via Unsplash)\, and fonts KG A Little Swag by Kimberly Geswein and Mix Stitch by Mix Fonts (via dafont.com). \nDel Ray Artisans\, founded in 1992\, is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote art for the benefit of artists and the community. \nMore information on the City of Alexandria’s 275th Anniversary is available at alexandriava.gov/ALX275. \nYarn bomb installation at River Towers Condominium (April 2024)\n#ALX275 installation at Del Ray Artisans (May 2024\, in progress)\n#ALX275 installation at Del Ray Artisans (June 2024)

SUMMARY:All About Love at Del Ray Artisans Gallery
DESCRIPTION:All About Love Art Exhibit\nJune 7–30\, 2024\nOpening Reception: Friday\, June 7 from 7–9pm\n“All About Love” by TJ Feeley\nStarting on Friday\, June 7\, come celebrate visual depictions of love at the All About Love exhibit at Del Ray Artisans gallery. In this exhibit\, local artists explore the concept of love in all of its forms: romantic love\, love for one’s parents and siblings\, love of pets\, young love\, enduring couples\, strong friendships\, soulmates\, and more. \nWhile the ancient Greeks identified eight major types of love (erotic\, affectionate\, familial\, playful\, enduring\, obsessive\, unconditional\, and self-compassionate)\, humans have an infinite number of ways to love. Love is one of the most important forces in the world—having been the theme of countless works of literature\, film\, architecture\, and even war (i.e.\, Helen of Troy). As Dr. Martin Luther King\, Jr. noted “…Hate cannot drive out hate\, only love can do that.” Come see how artists portray what love means to them using a variety of media. All the artwork is available for sale. \nJoin us for the opening reception on Friday\, June 7 between 7-9pm to meet curator TJ Feeley and the artists.
