DESCRIPTION:Kondo vs. Chaos Art Exhibit\nFebruary 7 – March 1\, 2020\nOpening Reception: Friday\, February 7 from 7-9pm\n“Chaos: The Failure of Gravity” by Marcia L. Toepfer\nDel Ray Artisans presents an exciting new exhibit\, Kondo vs. Chaos\, featuring the work of local artists from February 7 to March 1\, 2020. Meet the artists at the opening reception on Friday\, February 7 from 7-9pm. Kondo vs. Chaos examines the divide between those inspired by Marie Kondo’s theory of keeping only those things that bring you joy and those who deal with chaos in their lives. \nMarie Kondo’s technique has brought simplicity and order to millions of devotees. Her principles have struck a chord with those overwhelmed by “stuff.” Some artists thrive on\, or at least live with\, chaos. They eschew the orderly static world and value dynamism. Some painters\, like the Dutch still life artists\, depicted “organized chaos.” They painted carefully chaotic scenes of overcrowded tables that overflowed with platters of flowers\, fowls and fruits. Picasso used chaos in his electrifying Guernica painting to show the horrors\, terrors and the randomness of war. \nSimplicity and chaos co-exist in the minds of many and in the world at large. This exhibit enables artists to externalize these concepts. \nThe Kondo vs. Chaos exhibit is at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: Thursdays 12-6pm\, Fridays 12-9pm\, Saturdays 12-9pm\, and Sundays 12-6pm. If you have artwork that you would like to purchase\, please email the title\, description\, and/or artist’s name to Gallery@DelRayArtisans.org or Technology@DelRayArtisans.org by June 10\, 2020. \nView the Exhibit \n\nTell Me a Story Art Exhibit\nMarch 6-23\, 2020\nOpening Reception: Friday\, March 6 from 7-9pm\n“Look Up” by Lesley Hall\nJoin us at Del Ray Artisans gallery for a variety of stories told from local area artists. Have you ever looked at a piece of art and your imagination immediately starts to wander? Narrative art tells a story\, either as a moment in an ongoing story or as a sequence of events unfolding over time. A picture is worth a thousand words; Tell Me a Story will take you on an imaginative journey. \nMeet the curator and artists at the opening reception on Friday\, March 6 from 7-9pm; and register now for these special workshops held in conjunction with the exhibit: \n\nCalligraphy Storytelling Workshop on Sunday\, March 15 from 1-4pm. Explore calligraphy through experimenting with various writing tools and letterforms. This is an opportunity to practice hand lettering as a way to visually share a story\, poetry\, or travel journaling. Instructor: Jenny Nicholson.\n.\nCreate a New Story: Altered Book Workshop on Saturday\, March 28 from 1-4pm. Transform a board book into a beautiful\, inspiring new story using paints\, papers\, pages from old books and plenty of mixed media techniques. It’s never too late to begin a new chapter or create a new story. Instructor: Jackie Tury.
