DESCRIPTION:Assembly: Together We Grow Art Exhibit\nMarch 6–28\, 2026\nOpening Reception: Friday\, March 6 from 7–9pm\n“Hear the Call” by Haddy Kreie\nFrom council circles of Indigenous nations to agoras of ancient Greece\, and from impromptu storm shelters to reliable weekly spiritual gatherings and intimate family dinners\, gathering has shaped how we live and how we imagine better ways of living together. It is one of the essential tools we have for building trust\, sharing knowledge\, and making meaning across generations. \nThe Assembly: Together We Grow art exhibit at Del Ray Artisans delves into the fundamental human act of gathering and how it helps us grow\, care for one another\, and cultivate belonging. This member artist showcase explores gathering not just as a moment in time\, but as a powerful mechanism through which we sustain and reimagine the world together. \nJoin us for the opening reception on Friday\, March 6 between 7-9pm to meet curator Haddy Kreie and the artists. SUMMARY:STEAM-tastic: Calligraphy - The Art of Writing (Ages 10 to Adult)
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Jenny Nicholson\nDate/Time: Sunday\, March 8\, 10am-12pm\nCost: $10 per child / $25 per adult\nClass size: 3-15 participants\nWalk-ins welcome\, space permitting. \nJoin members of the Washington Calligraphers Guild to learn the art of calligraphy. Students will explore a variety of letterforms through hands-on practice with markers\, unique writing tools\, and inks. \nWe will view a variety of calligraphy examples along with a brief history of alphabets and scripts\, followed by a demonstration. Students will practice making the basic letter strokes with different writing tools\, papers\, and inks\, and learn tips to continue their practice at home. \nThis is a time to slow down\, use our hands and minds\, and explore the world of making strokes into letters and words. All ages\, beginners and those with experience are welcome. Good handwriting is not necessary\, and practicing calligraphy improves handwriting with consistency and rhythm. \nAll supplies are included. \nRegister Now \n\nSTEAM-tastic @ DRA – Come join us at Del Ray Artisans for interactive classes about Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Arts and Math (STEAM)\, taught by professionals from each field. DESCRIPTION:Urban sketchbooking emphasizes storytelling that conveys a sense of place or a moment in time through drawings completed from direct observations. \nBring your supplies and join us outside St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub (2300 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, VA 22301) to produce still life\, figure\, or architecture subjects in your sketchbook. Participants will spend some time putting their skills into practice and then reconvene for a review of finished works. \nDel Ray Urban Sketchers operates on a drop-in basis and meets on the second Sunday of the month (except not in July\, August\, and December) at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub in Del Ray\, as well as on the third Thursday of most months at a time and location that is varied (view upcoming dates). \nThis program is FREE!
