DESCRIPTION:Second Time Around Art Exhibit\nSeptember 5–27\, 2025\nOpening Reception: Friday\, September 5 from 7–9pm\n“Amoeba Series: Party!” by Tracy Wilkerson\nMany physical items we choose to remove from our lives can be sold/given/donated to others rather than going into our world’s overburdened landfills. It takes a conscious choice to acquire items from others rather than purchasing new items at a retail store. It also takes a little effort to offer something no longer needed to others rather than just tossing it in the trash or recycle bin. The Second Time Around art exhibit at Del Ray Artisans gallery focuses on this thought-change concept of sustainable creativity and enhancing the artistic environmental ethos\, from the featured artwork utilizing recycled materials to the special workshops and events held during the exhibit. \nJoin us for the opening reception on Friday\, September 5 between 7-9pm to meet curator Tracy Wilkerson and the artists. SUMMARY:Volunteer in the Gardens
DESCRIPTION:Give some TLC to Del Ray Artisans’ gardens! Join the Gardens Committee to spruce up the landscaping around the gallery. \nBring gloves\, knee pads (if desired)\, and laughter. Even if you don’t know what a weed is\, we can teach you. Volunteer for 1 hour or the whole 2.5 hours. If you have any questions\, please email Kurt at Gardens@DelRayArtisans.org. \nMEMBERS: This task counts towards your annual membership volunteer hours (record your hours). \nNON-MEMBERS: You are welcome to come help and learn too. \nSave the Dates: During the season (March-October)\, the committee typically meets the third Saturday of the month from 9am-11am. In June\, July\, and August\, we’ll meet an hour earlier (8am-10am) to avoid the heat. The June session will be a week earlier on Saturday\, June 14th; and the September session has been rescheduled to Sunday\, September 21st to avoid conflict with the HalloWEIRD art market. Thank you for your volunteer time! \n\nNOTE: All plantings and transplantings must be approved by the Garden Committee. The Garden Committee approval is important to make sure the plants that get chosen are great for nature\, located properly for the right amount of sun or shade\, don’t conflict with other plants or facility needs\, and fit into the overall garden plan with maintenance in mind.

SUMMARY:Dime Store Alchemy: Make a Found Object Poetry Box (Register ASAP)
DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Viki Walchak\, vwalchak@yahoo.com\nDate/Time: Saturday\, September 13\, 6-8:30pm\nCost: $55 Del Ray Artisans member / $65 Non-member; plus a $10 Supply Fee\nClass size: 6-12 participants\n(Register in advance) \nIn the spirit of Joseph Cornell\, a 20th century artist inspired by the poetry of found objects rearranged into evocative tableaus\, participants will craft small inventive shadow boxes. A variety of mixed media and assemblage techniques will be introduced. This will be an opportunity to creatively explore memories\, dreams and personal visions or give tribute to a friend or family member. It is a great way to practice intuitive art making skills and mine your personal and collective unconscious for insights and wisdom. \nParticipants will look at examples of Joseph Cornell’s assemblages and learn a bit about his motivations and techniques before crafting a shadowbox of their own design. Various mixed-media\, collage and assemblage techniques will be discussed and demonstrated. Materials\, wooden boxes and small hand tools will be provided\, but participants are invited to bring in small bits of ephemera from their personal spaces too. Old cards\, stamps\, small objects\, prints\, broken electronics and such can all be intriguingly arranged using this art-making approach. \nAll materials and tools will be provided\, but participants are encouraged to bring their own collection of small objects and ephemera too. \nRegister Now \n\nView other upcoming workshops\, information about the facility and policies on the Upcoming Workshops page.
