DESCRIPTION:Fascinating Fiber\, Alluring Fabric Art Exhibit\nSeptember 6–28\, 2024\nOpening Reception: Friday\, September 6 from 7–9pm\nFiber art fascinates by taking art outside the frame—it is unique\, dimensional\, and tactile. Draped\, stitched\, or embellished fabric sparks creativity and delights the senses\, as itself and when depicted in other visual art forms. The Fascinating Fiber\, Alluring Fabric art exhibit at Del Ray Artisans focuses on fiber and fabric art but also highlights their influence on other mediums as well. This exhibit showcases art from local area artists. Judy Gula\, owner of Artistic Artifacts\, selected the artist awards. \nJoin us for the opening reception on Friday\, September 6 between 7-9pm to meet the curators and the artists. Join us for an exciting Immersive Art Workshop. In this workshop\, you’ll dive into the cutting-edge realms of Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) to bring your wildest artistic visions to life. You’ll explore the vibrant possibilities of Tilt Brush VR\, where you can paint with light\, craft sculptures out of thin air\, and unleash your creativity in a fully immersive 3D environment. Additionally\, you’ll discover the fascinating world of mobile AR apps to design interactive artworks that spring to life on your mobile device. \nThe hands-on activity is for participants’ ages 6-10. He is a lecturer in Computer Science at George Washington University\, where he teaches courses in Augmented and Virtual Reality. Dr. Ok also serves as a research fellow at the university’s Cybersecurity and Privacy Research Institute (CSPRI). With over 24 years of experience as a Senior Information Officer at the World Bank\, Dr. Ok brings a wealth of knowledge to his work. He is a board member of the Global Co Lab Network (GCLN)\, an NGO focused on empowering youth\, and a producer of award-winning community TV shows at Fairfax Public Access (FPA). Dr. Ok holds a Doctorate in Computer Science from George Washington University. \n\nSTEAM-tastic @ DRA – Come join us at Del Ray Artisans for interactive classes about Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, Arts and Math (STEAM)\, taught by professionals from each field! Geared toward kids and teens\, each lesson has a short talk or demonstration and a hands-on craft project. DESCRIPTION:Call for Artists ~ Open to Del Ray Artisans Members\nAlcove Gift Shop\nOctober 4 – December 1\, 2024\nApplication deadline: Saturday\, September 14\, 2024 by midnight\n \nDel Ray Artisans’ Alcove is a gift shop within the gallery\, where members (who apply and are accepted) display and sell their work. Unframed 2-D works are available in bins alongside jewelry\, fiber art\, wood craft\, ceramics\, and other smaller 3-D items. \nThe work will be displayed for two months\, and as pieces are sold they can be replaced with similar work for no additional fee. This opportunity is independent of the monthly exhibits and is only open to Del Ray Artisans members.
