This Del Ray Artisans members showcase explores notions of identity\, distinctions and similarities in our natural and manmade world. Through a variety of mediums\, styles\, and perspectives\, the Same But Different exhibit invites the viewers to look at the interconnectedness of humanity by examining the uniqueness of things that may appear to be the same. \nJoin us for the opening reception on Friday\, April 5 between 7-9pm to meet curators Pinar Artuk-Boegel and Barbara Cooper and the artists. DESCRIPTION:Instructor: Stacy Rausch\nDate/Time: Thursday\, April 11\, 6-9pm\nCost: $40 Del Ray Artisans member / $50 Non-member; plus a $20 Supply Fee\nClass size: 5-15 participants\n(Register by midnight on April 6) \nMandalas in progress by Stacy Rausch\nDrawing mandalas can be a type of therapeutic art form and can help well-being and reduce anxiety. The design is usually symmetrical\, radiating from the center of a circle\, which is what you will learn to do in this class. However\, I will also show examples of what else you can do with the basic shapes and structure of the mandala\, or “circle.” \nAfter showing you the basics of how to construct a mandala\, we will spend time going over the primary designs and shapes\, before jumping into drawing your own circular piece of art. \nEach student will receive a basic kit you will take home to continue your meditative art journey. \nNote: The art of the mandala has been around since the 4th century primarily in Tibet\, India\, Nepal\, China and Japan. DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled due to the weather. \nJoin us outside Del Ray Artisans gallery from 6:30-8pm for our family-friendly activity. We are decorating upcycled flower containers! Each person will receive a container to decorate at the gallery and a small bag of potting soil & seeds to take home for planting and watering. \nAlso pop into the gallery to see the Same But Different art exhibit. Del Ray Artisans gallery is open 12-9pm on First Thursdays from April through September. Please be considerate of the workshop that is happening tonight. \nFrom March 20–April 14\, check out Del Ray Artisans’ gallery exterior decorations for the 2024 National Cherry Blossom Festival: Petal Porches. Our theme is Cherry Bomb! \n\nFor the first First Thursday of 2024 on April 11th (rain date)\, the Del Ray Business Association has chosen the theme: Del Ray in Bloom to celebrate National Gardening Month. Join the Del Ray community for live music and themed activities. Donations to this First Thursday’s selected nonprofit\, the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Boys & Girls Club\, will be collected at the Pat Miller Neighborhood Square (Oxford & Mt. Vernon Avenues). \n\nEvery year from April through September Del Ray Business Association celebrates First Thursday\, a Del Ray community event along Mount Vernon Avenue from 6pm until dusk on the first Thursday of the month. Del Ray Artisans is a member of Del Ray Business Association.
