SUMMARY:STIGMA (9/3-9/25)
DESCRIPTION:STIGMA Art Exhibit\nSeptember 3 – 25\, 2021\nOnline Album | Video Tour \nVisit Del Ray Artisans gallery in September to view the STIGMA art exhibit showcasing various representations of stigma. These works include viewpoints on mental health disorders\, HIV\, homelessness\, disabilities\, sexual orientation\, bullying\, race and ethnicity\, and more. \nWebster’s definition of stigma is “a mark of disgrace associated with a particular circumstance\, quality or person.”  This exhibit brings to light the challenges stigma presents for individuals connecting with society.  Through their art\, local adult artists and high school students express their perspective on the concept of stigma—how it feels\, how it can affect and/or disrupt lives\, and how it can be overcome. \nReserve a ticket for a half-hour viewing during the extended hours on opening day: Friday\, September 3 between 12-9pm. Opening day tickets are not required\, but ticket holders have priority entry. The gallery capacity is limited to 15 people at any one time in order to facilitate social distancing. \nOpening Day Tickets \nThe STIGMA exhibit runs September 3-25\, 2021 at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. Regular gallery hours are First Thursday (Apr-Sept) 12-9pm\, Thursday 12-6pm\, Friday 12-9pm\, Saturday 12-6pm\, and Sunday 12-6pm (closed the last Sunday of the month). \nDel Ray Artisans is ALX Promise certified and committed to the health and safety of our visitors. Face masks must be worn by all while visiting the gallery. The gallery is free\, open to the public\, and accessible. \nFor more information\, contact the curators Liz Martinez (catniphaze@gmail.com) and Debi Steinbacher (debisteinbacher@gmail.com) or Director of Curating Kelly Postula (Curating@DelRayArtisans.org). \n\n \n\nArtwork credit: “Stigma Police” by Gordon Frank

SUMMARY:“Expanding the Common Ground” Call for Entry Deadline
DESCRIPTION:Call for Entry ~ Open to area artists & high school studentsExpanding the Common Ground: Voices of the Global Majority\nExhibit Dates: October 1-30\, 2021\nDigital entry deadline extended to Saturday\, September 18\, 2021 by midnight\n“Skin Deep: Underneath Don’t We All Look the Same” by Amy Kitchin\nEntry Details & Form \nWe invite artists of ALL ethnicities\, ages\, genders\, and walks of life to explore what makes us one\, to find the common ground among us\, and to explore what it means to heal the divides. The world has been designed by institutions\, and terms like people of color or minorities serve to divide us and create white vs. non-white or us vs. them paradigms. This exhibit is intended to examine the spaces between us and shared among us\, with a focus on our shared humanity and the things that bring us together. We seek art that breaks down barriers\, examines all facets of our diversity\, and celebrates our unity. \nThe Expanding the Common Ground: Voices of the Global Majority art exhibit is open to all area artists and high school students. Area high school students are invited to participate for free (no entry fee). Del Ray Artisans members pay a discounted entry fee. \nThis exhibit will not have an associated Art-to-Go Marketplace. \nEntry Details & Form
