DESCRIPTION:The Naked and the Newt: Studies in Human and Herpeton Anatomy Art Exhibit\nJune 4 – 26\, 2021\n“Sunbaaaathing” by Guy Jones\nView Online: Photo Album | Video Tour \nCome see The Naked and the Newt: Studies in Human and Herpeton Anatomy art exhibit to see how artists explore the human body and reptiles / amphibians / herpetons. This exhibition investigates conceptions of anatomy\, texture\, and conservation with our partners\, the Virginia Herpetological Society\, and runs June 4-26\, 2021 at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. The gallery is free\, open to the public\, and accessible. \nReserve a ticket for a half-hour viewing during the extended hours on opening day: Friday\, June 4 between 12-8pm. Opening day tickets are not required\, but ticket holders have priority entry. The gallery capacity is limited to 10 people at any one time in order to facilitate social distancing. \nOpening Day Tickets \nRegular gallery hours are Thursdays 12-6pm\, Fridays 12-6pm\, and Saturdays 12-4pm. DESCRIPTION:Crochet by Elaine Hood\nOnline Workshop: Crochet for Beginners\nInstructor: Elaine Hood\nDate/Time: Saturday\, June 19 from 1-3pmCost: $35 Del Ray Artisans member / $45 Non-member; Plus $15 crochet kit or bring your own supplies\nClass size: 4-8 participants\n(Register by June 12 if ordering the supply kit; If you have your own supplies\, register by 11am on Saturday\, June 19) \nAs part of Del Ray Artisans’ exhibit The Naked and The Newt and its focus on texture\, instructor Elaine Hood will guide participants through the fundamentals of crochet – chain stitch\, single crochet\, project planning and more\, as time and interests permit. Students will leave the class with the skills to complete their first project – a pot holder\, headband\, or fingerless gloves – and the resources to continue their journey through the world of fiber arts. \nPurchase the $15 crochet kit when registering or bring your own yarn and hook and optional plastic tapestry needle. The crochet kit includes: medium (4) weight acrylic yarn\, size H (5mm) aluminum crochet hook with ergonomic handle\, and plastic tapestry needles for finishing. Crochet kits will be available to pick up at the gallery during regular hours (Thursdays & Fridays 12-6pm\, Saturdays 12-4pm). \nIf supplying your own materials\, choose a medium to light or bright color yarn\, and avoid cottons and shiny or textured yarn. Bring: \n\n1 skein Acrylic or wool blend yarn – medium (4) weight (avoid dark colors for stitch visibility)\, such as Lion Brand® Heartland® Yarn (yellow stone)\, Red Heart® Super Saver® Yarn (white)\, or Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Solid Yarn (canyon sunset)\nSize H (5mm) aluminum crochet hook\, with or without ergonomic grip\, such as Susan Bates® Silvalume® Aluminum Crochet Hook or Anodized Aluminum Crochet Hook by Loops & Threads®\nPlastic tapestry needle (optional\, for finishing)\, such as Loops & Threads® Knit Quick™ Plastic Needles\n\nThis workshop will be online through the Zoom platform. Elaine taught an annual crochet workshop at the Camden County Arts 4 Teens Festival for several years. She holds an Associate degree in Applied Arts and a BA in Clinical/Counseling Psychology.
