DESCRIPTION:Kondo vs. Chaos Art Exhibit\nFebruary 7 – March 1\, 2020\nOpening Reception: Friday\, February 7 from 7-9pm\n“Chaos: The Failure of Gravity” by Marcia L. Toepfer\nDel Ray Artisans presents an exciting new exhibit\, Kondo vs. Chaos\, featuring the work of local artists from February 7 to March 1\, 2020. Meet the artists at the opening reception on Friday\, February 7 from 7-9pm. Kondo vs. Chaos examines the divide between those inspired by Marie Kondo’s theory of keeping only those things that bring you joy and those who deal with chaos in their lives. \nMarie Kondo’s technique has brought simplicity and order to millions of devotees. Her principles have struck a chord with those overwhelmed by “stuff.” Some artists thrive on\, or at least live with\, chaos. They eschew the orderly static world and value dynamism. Some painters\, like the Dutch still life artists\, depicted “organized chaos.” They painted carefully chaotic scenes of overcrowded tables that overflowed with platters of flowers\, fowls and fruits. Picasso used chaos in his electrifying Guernica painting to show the horrors\, terrors and the randomness of war. \nSimplicity and chaos co-exist in the minds of many and in the world at large. This exhibit enables artists to externalize these concepts. \nThe Kondo vs. Chaos exhibit is at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: Thursdays 12-6pm\, Fridays 12-9pm\, Saturdays 12-9pm\, and Sundays 12-6pm. DESCRIPTION:Facilities Director Kurt Peterson and the New Card Display\nCome to the gallery for our card making party on Presidents’ Day (Monday\, February 17) from 4-7pm. All are welcome to this free\, drop-in\, 3-hour card making creative social party and giving event to benefit Del Ray Artisans. \nThe All Occasion handmade cards will be used to stock the NEW card display made by Kurt Peterson and for the Sunshine Committee to send to members and friends who could use a little “shine” to brighten their day. For makers who’d like to keep their cards\, please give a donation for the supplies and organizers’ time. \nHostesses Theresa Kulstad and Karen Schmitz welcome all levels of “cardie” enthusiasts to drop-in (no registration required) and will provide plenty of art making materials\, cards\, and envelopes.
