DESCRIPTION:Fresh Meat Art Exhibit\nAugust 2 – September 1\, 2019\nOpening Reception: Friday\, August 2 from 7-9pm\nFeel Good Lost by Melissa Groth\nJoin us at Del Ray Artisans gallery for a special art exhibit called Fresh Meat. The exhibit highlights new faces and techniques—showcasing artwork by Del Ray Artisans’ newest member artists. Get a sneak peek of the exhibit on First Thursday\, August 1 from 6-9pm; and come to the opening reception on Friday\, August 2 from 7-9pm to meet the curators and artists. \nMembers who joined between January 2018 through May 2019 were invited to enter work in the exhibit; and\, as a part of a membership drive\, members who recruited new member artists were also invited to enter. From the submissions curators Brittany Gabel and Kurt Peterson selected quality artwork in a variety of styles and mediums to formulate the Fresh Meat exhibit and introduce the new members’ work to the community. The exhibit runs August 2 through September 1\, 2019. \nJoin us for a special workshop taught by an award winning Del Ray Artisans and The Art League member\, Jeff Lodge: Acrylics\, Mixing Color for Realism on Saturday\, August 10 from 11am-2pm. Learn the basic principles for working with acrylic paints\, including paint and tool selection\, surface preparation\, mixing\, mediums\, and more. This workshop is for all skill levels. Register in advance. \nThe art exhibit and painting workshop are at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: First Thursdays (April-September) 12-9pm\, Thursdays 12-6pm\, Fridays 12-9pm\, Saturdays 12-9pm\, and Sundays 12-6pm. SUMMARY:RESCHEDULED to 9/5: Introduction to Brazilian Zouk (Free Dance Class!)
DESCRIPTION:This workshop has been rescheduled to September 5th. This workshop is free\, but please register in advance to help the instructors plan. \nInstructors: Dixie Pond and Niranjan Dinesh\nDate: Thursday\, August 15 from 7-8:30pm\nClass size: 4-12 participants \nBrazilian zouk is a partner dance from Brazil characterized by flowy\, circular movements. The beginner classes will cover the foundations of the dance\, including basic steps\, timing\, and connection. Brazilian zouk derived from Brazilian lambada. Following the lambada craze\, people began dancing lambada steps to slower paced music from the French Caribbean called zouk. Thus\, Brazilian zouk was born! The dance continues to evolve today and can be danced to a variety of music.  \nStudents can expect to learn the basic steps of Brazilian zouk as well as timing. Class can be a standalone\, or a series of beginner classes if there is interest in a 4-week series. \nComfortable clothing and comfortable shoes (i.e.\, able to pivot in them!) recommended for attendees. \n. \n\nThis workshop is a part of Del Ray Artisans’ Creative Summer Programs.
