DESCRIPTION:Fresh Meat Art Exhibit\nAugust 2 – September 1\, 2019\nOpening Reception: Friday\, August 2 from 7-9pm\nFeel Good Lost by Melissa Groth\nJoin us at Del Ray Artisans gallery for a special art exhibit called Fresh Meat. The exhibit highlights new faces and techniques—showcasing artwork by Del Ray Artisans’ newest member artists. Get a sneak peek of the exhibit on First Thursday\, August 1 from 6-9pm; and come to the opening reception on Friday\, August 2 from 7-9pm to meet the curators and artists. \nMembers who joined between January 2018 through May 2019 were invited to enter work in the exhibit; and\, as a part of a membership drive\, members who recruited new member artists were also invited to enter. From the submissions curators Brittany Gabel and Kurt Peterson selected quality artwork in a variety of styles and mediums to formulate the Fresh Meat exhibit and introduce the new members’ work to the community. The exhibit runs August 2 through September 1\, 2019. \nJoin us for a special workshop taught by an award winning Del Ray Artisans and The Art League member\, Jeff Lodge: Acrylics\, Mixing Color for Realism on Saturday\, August 10 from 11am-2pm. Learn the basic principles for working with acrylic paints\, including paint and tool selection\, surface preparation\, mixing\, mediums\, and more. This workshop is for all skill levels. Register in advance. \nThe art exhibit and painting workshop are at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: First Thursdays (April-September) 12-9pm\, Thursdays 12-6pm\, Fridays 12-9pm\, Saturdays 12-9pm\, and Sundays 12-6pm. SUMMARY:Workshop: Acrylics\, Mixing Color for Realism
DESCRIPTION:Old Trap Floats by Jeff Lodge\nInstructor: Jeff Lodge\nDate: Saturday\, August 10 from 11am-2pm\nClass size: 5-12 participants\n(Register by August 7) \nMixing the right color can be challenging. In this workshop\, Jeff will show how to reproduce the colors in a scene using tints\, tones\, shades\, and hues. Common problems and mistakes will be covered\, and students will learn how to get the correct overall tonal balance in a painting\, recreate atmospheric effects\, and use glazing to reduce contrast and blend color areas. \nAlthough acrylics will be used in the workshop\, the theories taught are applicable to all opaque paint mediums (such as acrylic\, oil\, and gouache). Students will create a small painting during the class. This workshop is for all skill levels. \nStudents should bring: Brushes\, palette\, palette knives\, apron (if desired).\nPaint\, small canvases\, water and mixing cups\, and cleanup supplies are supplied. \n\nAbout the Instructor: Jeff Lodge is an award winning Del Ray Artisans and The Art League member.
