DESCRIPTION:Art in Meditation – The Chakras Art Exhibit\nJune 6-30\, 2019\nOpening Reception: Friday\, June 7 from 7-9pm\nSummer Solstice Reception: Friday\, June 21 from 7-9pm\nJoin us at Del Ray Artisans for Art in Meditation – The Chakras. This art exhibit celebrates the seven energy centers of the body\, starting from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head. The seven chakras are associated with vibrations\, moods\, and colors\, and are frequently used in yoga and meditation practices. \nThe exhibit is juried by contemporary artist Jeff Erickson\, an abstract artist\, based in Alexandria\, Virginia. He uses oils and cold wax medium to create contemporary paintings anchored in nature. He exhibits in galleries primarily on the East Coast\, and his work can be seen locally at Principle Gallery in Alexandria. \nMeet the curators\, Joyce A. Frank and Kitty Russell\, and the artists at the opening reception on Friday\, June 7 from 7-9pm. The exhibit includes an art-to-go marketplace\, which will operate inside the gallery during regular gallery hours and in front of the gallery on Del Ray’s First Thursday celebration on June 6 and during the neighborhood Well Ray event on June 22. \nChart of the Chakras\nPlease also join us for the Summer Solstice Reception on Friday\, June 21 from 7-9pm. In addition to these free activities\, these special workshops are open for registration: \n\nMeditation\, Breath\, and Sound with Dante on June 8 from 10-11:30am\nUsing crystal and Tibetan bowls\, Dante will lead a soothing asana and breathwork class to prepare the body for sound meditation. In the last hour\, Dante will conclude with a soothing and unique exploration of the chakra energy points through sound vibration. Instructor: Dante Baker. (Register by June 3)\n.\nChakras Revealed Workshop on June 13 from 6:30-8:30pm\nThe instructor will give an overview of the primary chakras and how they help in life\, especially those in creative fields; then participants will practice asanas (exercises)\, pranayama (breathing technique)\, and meditation specific to a selected chakra. Instructor: David Kosar\, Yoga in Daily Life. (Register by June 11)\n.\nPainting the Chakra Energies Workshop on June 15 from 10am-12pm\nLearn to use a variety of tools for layering and taking away acrylic paint to create works that represent the energies of the chakras. During this workshop you will create unique pieces reflecting your journey with the chakras. Instructor: Nancy Ramsey. (Register by June 12)\n.\nReleasing Energy Blocks: A Gong Sound Meditation Workshop on June 23 from 9:30-11am\nThis experiential workshop begins with an easy but effective breath exercise\, followed by a guided meditation to energize the chakra system to release energetic blocks\, stimulate circulation. No experience necessary. Please bring a yoga mat or blanket\, as well as a cushion for seated meditation if needed. Instructor: Monique Durfuss. (Register by June 18)\n.\nChair Yoga and Meditation Workshop on June 25 from 7-8:30pm\nBalance body and mind in a mostly seated 75-minute yoga practice. Explore the mindful fusion of movement and breath as it guides us to a better understanding of our true self. This class is suitable for all levels and inclusive of those with limited mobility. Instructor: Kay Sidahmed. (Register by June 22)\n.\n\nArt in Meditation – The Chakras runs June 6-30\, 2019 at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. We’ll start with the basics of learning to use a smartphone camera and review the settings for optimal image capture to pro tips and techniques of exposure\, composition and focus that produce the best results.
