DESCRIPTION:New Beginnings  Art Exhibit\nFebruary 1-24\, 2019\nOpening Reception: Friday\, February 1 from 7-9pm\n“Flower Gears” by Tracy Wilkerson\nThe EPA estimates that 75% of the American waste stream is recyclable\, but we only recycle about 30% of it. People have taken to eBay and CraigsList for years to rehome their used goods in exchange for cash\, and now many are utilizing give-away sites like Freecycle.org and BuyNothing too. Artists are often among the most conscientious recyclers\, by reusing others’ discards to create unique art. \nJoin us at Del Ray Artisans from February 1-24\, 2019 for New Beginnings art exhibit featuring beautiful artwork created by reuse. These creations incorporate at least half of their materials from either found objects\, recycled materials or older works of art. Meet the curator and some of the artists at the opening reception on Friday\, February 1 from 7-9pm. \nFour workshops are scheduled during this show – register before they fill up! \n\nWire-Wrapped Gemstone and Crystal Rings Workshop on February 7\, 6-8pm\nMaking Cards Workshop on February 10\, 6-8pm\nFound It – Make It – Wear It (Jewelry) Workshop on February 12\, 7-9pm\nPlaying with Resin Workshop on February 19\, 6-9pm\n\nThe art exhibit\, opening reception\, and workshops are at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: Thursdays 12-6pm\, Fridays 12-9pm\, Saturdays 12-9pm\, and Sundays 12-6pm. DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, February 17 from 4-6pm\nThe time is here! Join us at our most popular All Members Meeting: Del Ray Artisans’ annual Art Supplies Swap! If you haven’t already\, check your studios\, basements\, closets\, attics—wherever you have stashed those old art supplies that you really thought you would use\, and bite the bulletÖ if you haven’t used them yet—give someone else a chance! And maybe you will find a new project waiting for you! Please bring your old supplies with you to the meeting. \nThis year\, we ask that you to take a look at what you have and see if items can be donated to Inspiration Matterz—an initiative run by local artist and fellow Del Ray Artisans member\, Kelli Sincock. A list of the much-needed / prison-approved items is provided below. \nAny supplies not donated to Inspiration Matterz will be collected and displayed in the middle of the room. Light refreshments will be served as we learn about the latest DRA news\, and view the supplies. We will then pull names from a hat to take turns choosing “new” supplies! I need pictures that are pulled from newspapers and magazines that are at least 4◊6?. Color or black & white are fine. Jail will not allow nudes\, weapons\, alcohol or drug references\, or violence. Basically\, the images must be PG. Most asked for images: birds\, butterflies\, lions & tigers\, cars\, cityscapes\, wildlife\, roses/flowers\, and portraits.\nWhen someone is released and they have been an exceptional student who shows serious interest in continuing their study of art\, I give them a gift packet of NEW supplies and paper.
