DESCRIPTION:Faces Art Exhibit\nJanuary 4 – 27\, 2019\nOpening Reception: Friday\, January 4 from 7-9pm\nJoin us at Del Ray Artisans from January 4-27\, 2019 for the Faces art exhibit. Portraits show the life a person has lived\, the joy a person emanates\, the wisdom gained through years of living\, and focuses on the soul of the person. This exhibit celebrates the fresh face of a two-year old toddler or the lived-in face of an octogenarian and all those living in-between. Faces and bodies are as the artist portrays them\, whether realistic\, impressionistic\, surreal\, or abstract. \nMeet the curators and some of the artists at the opening reception on Friday\, January 4 from 7-9pm at Del Ray Artisans. You may also enjoy the exhibit during these special workshops in January: \n“The New Mother Look” by Rita Schooley\n\nThe Art of Business workshop on Saturday\, January 12\, 10am-Noon. In a lecture and discussion format\, Rita Schooley\, CPA\, will go over the general points of tax law and then answer questions on income\, sales\, and local Virginia county taxes. We will also discuss general aspects of business from an artist’s viewpoint\, such as recordkeeping\, record retention\, filing tax returns\, estimated tax payments\, and navigating the tax maze. Register in advance.\n~\nNeedle Felted Jewelry workshop on Saturday\, January 12\, 1-4pm. During this workshop\, participants will learn the basics of how to create 3D Needle Felted Jewelry\, as well as basic jewelry techniques. Instructor Brittany Gabel will also help you explore using other materials such as beads\, charms\, and thread in your needle felted jewelry pieces. Register in advance.\n~\nCreative Revival workshop starts Saturday\, January 26\, 2-4pm (recurring weekly for 12 weeks). Do you need support to make your creative dreams a reality? You are cordially invited to join the Creative Revival Artist’s Way Circle\, a facilitated group by artist and curator Sharon Burton that will meet once a week for 12 weeks as we go through The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. The program is focused on supporting relationships in removing artistic blocks and fostering confidence. Register in advance.\n\nThe art exhibit\, opening reception\, and workshops are at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center\, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue\, Alexandria\, Virginia 22301. DESCRIPTION:Bringing Words to Life Art Exhibit at VCA Alexandria Animal Hospital\nSeptember 30\, 2018 – January 27\, 2019\n“I Hope You Dance” by Monica Hokeilen\nThe Bringing Words to Life art exhibit at the Veterinary Clinics of America Alexandria Animal Hospital (VCA Alexandria) features Del Ray Artisans members’ artwork. The exhibit is a part of Del Ray Artisans’ Gallery Without Walls (GWW) program in partnership with VCA Alexandria and features paintings\, photography\, and mixed media works of art. \nWords can be powerful forms of art. Whether written\, spoken\, or sung\, words often evoke emotion and meaning that stay with us long after they are finished. Bringing Words to Life pairs a line from an artist’s favorite song\, poem\, book\, or speech with the artist’s visual interpretation of that quote. This exhibit will display the artwork and quoted lines together at VCA Alexandria from September 30\, 2018 through January 27\, 2019. Patrons may view the artwork at VCA Alexandria during regular business hours and at the discretion of hospital staff. \nAll artwork is available for purchase through Del Ray Artisans. Artists are donating 20% of the purchase price of sold pieces in an equal split between Del Ray Artisans and the VCA Alexandria’s charity of choice\, Veterans Moving Forward. Veterans Moving Forward helps veterans lead more productive lives through partnerships with trained assistance animals.
