Streets Meets Glass Art Exhibit at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter

Reception: Friday, May 20 from 7-9pm
Show Dates: May 15 – August 15, 2016
Location: Vola Lawson Animal Shelter, 4101 Eisenhower Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22304

What happens when street art and glass art converge? Well, sidewalks sizzle! Puppies fly! Glass pops! Kitties purrrrrrr! Paint explodes! The world comes together dancin’ in the streets on (broken?) glass! Del Ray Artisans’ Gallery Without Walls (GWW) program and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria have partnered to present Streets Meets Glass, a family-friendly art exhibit at the Vola Lawson Animal Shelter (AlexandriaAnimals.org), located at 4101 Eisenhower Avenue, Alexandria, VA 22304.

The exhibit features the work of two Del Ray Artisans artists, Joshua Oliveira and Betsy Mead, who combine their diverse artistic styles to bring you a communion of inspiring art. Josh’s urban street art style combines the use of stencils and paints to produce sizzling portraits and surrealistic images. Betsy slices, dices, and fuses glass to create popping compositions that vary from lighthearted to subtly ironic. These two artists have worked doggedly to bring sizzle and pop to the shelter, and offer patrons an unusual look at the world through their artistic eyes. The artwork is family-friendly, two-dimensional, and available for purchase and immediate possession. The artists will donate 40 percent of each sale, which is shared equally between Del Ray Artisans and the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria – both 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.

Join us for a purrfectly wonderful reception to view the artwork on Friday, May 20 from 7-9pm at the shelter. During the reception light refreshments will be served. Also, Animal Welfare League staff will conduct tours of shelter facilities at 7:45 and 8:15pm and will introduce guests to current shelter residents. Josh and Betsy will be available to discuss their work with patrons throughout the evening.

The Vola Lawson Animal Shelter is open to the public for adoptions and viewings during the following hours: Weekdays from 12-7pm (closed Wednesdays) and on weekends from 12-5pm. The shelter is handicapped-accessible. For more information, please visit www.TheDelRayArtisans.org/GWW or contact Linda Goetz Mierke at Animals@DelRayArtisans.org
