Give Me Shelter Art Exhibit
March 5 – 27, 2021
During the pandemic we all have learned what it means to shelter in place. Shelters are often structures, yet sometimes just a state of where one is. For many it is a way to connect to our dwellings, and for others it merely means finding refuge. Some people even choose to shelter from the facts of the COVID-19 virus and its spread. The current crisis has nearly 40 million American renters at risk of homelessness. A building, box, bench, grate, tent, car—all places where humans shelter. Come see how local artists explore the concept of shelter in the Give Me Shelter art exhibit at Del Ray Artisans.
Reserve a ticket for a half-hour viewing during the extended hours on opening day: Friday, March 5 between 12-8pm. Opening day tickets are not required, but ticket holders have priority entry.
Elements of this exhibit will benefit the Carpenter’s Shelter, supporting the needs of Alexandria families facing homelessness. We are asking for community help during this exhibit. Look for a designated donations box at the gallery in March and drop off donations to support the current and ongoing needs of the Carpenter’s Shelter, including new twin-size air mattresses, new full-size toiletries, and bar soap. Monetary donations and Target gift cards are also appreciated. Check their website for the latest needs: www.carpentersshelter.org/give/
The Give Me Shelter exhibit runs March 5–27, 2021 at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22301. The gallery is free, open to the public, and accessible.
