Breaking the Glass Ceiling – The Sky’s the Limit (3/31-4/30) @ Del Ray Artisans Gallery
Apr 30 all-day

Exhibit Dates:  March 31 – April 30, 2017
Opening Reception: Friday, March 31 from 7-9pm

The Sky is the Limit by Heike Gramckow
“The Sky is the Limit” by Heike Gramckow

The Breaking the Glass Ceiling – The Sky’s the Limit art exhibit at Del Ray Artisans gallery reflects on the metaphor “breaking the glass ceiling”, pushing through a tough, not quite invisible barrier that keeps many from reaching their full potential or their dreams beyond a certain level in a hierarchy or in society. Breaking glass, breaking barriers, reaching beyond traditional boundaries, stretching beyond one’s own and society’s current limits, only accepting the limits of an endless sky have been a theme for many artists and reflect a very current theme. Please join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, March 31 from 7-9pm.

Please also join us on Friday, April 14 from 7-9pm for a sampling of short films from the Alexandria Film Festival. The films are being selected from the fall 2016 festival and will tie in with the Breaking the Glass Ceiling – The Sky’s the Limit art exhibit theme.

This year Del Ray Artisans celebrates 25 years of supporting visual artists; providing equal access to all has always been at the center of its mission. Inclusion of all to provide a space to advance beyond set boundaries is as important today as it was 25 years ago.

The Breaking the Glass Ceiling: The Sky is the Limit exhibit runs March 31 – April 30, 2017 at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: Thursdays 12-6pm (First Thursdays 12-9pm), Fridays 12-9pm, Saturdays 12-9pm, and Sundays 12-6pm. The gallery is free, open to the public, and handicap accessible.

“Speak Your Mind” Opening Reception @ Del Ray Artisans Gallery
May 5 @ 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Exhibit Dates: May 5-28, 2017
Opening Reception: Friday, May 5 from 7-9pm

Speak Your Mind art exhibitThey say “a picture is worth a thousand words.” The Speak Your Mind art exhibit celebrates the relationship between art and the human mind as a form of nonverbal communication. For some, visual arts are a platform for advocacy, a way to raise awareness of a social cause, or to express a political message. Art is a means of self-expression when it portrays emotions, thoughts, or a state of mind. For others, the process of making art is itself a form of therapy to improve mental health or as an exercise in mindfulness. This show coincides with Mental Health Awareness Month (May).

Please join us for the opening reception on Friday, May 5 from 7-9pm to meet the curators and some of the artists and enjoy the unveiling of the exhibit.

The Speak Your Mind exhibit runs May 5–28, 2017 at Del Ray Artisans gallery in the Colasanto Center, 2704 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria, Virginia 22301. Gallery hours are: First Thursdays (April-September) 12-9pm, Thursdays 12-6pm, Fridays 12-9pm, Saturdays 12-9pm, and Sundays 12-6pm. The gallery is free, open to the public, and handicap accessible.
